I Would Rate This Place As Average. I’m generally unconcerned about price at a restaurant. But when I walked into this place and looked at the decor I immediately thought to myself, geez, I wonder how much the steaks are priced. I then noticed the specials listed on the board which were priced and thought….ridiculous. Witholding judgment, I watched as several orders which included steak were delivered to tables. Then I started looking at the prices on the menu. Again, ridiculous came to mind. After mulling around what to order I noticed the menu referenced fresh ground beef, daily. I ordered the steer burger medium well and opted for the salad bar. Another person in the party ordered the steer burger and the two Catholics ordered fish; salmon and perch. The food was delivered. My steer burger was overcooked. So was the other person’s steer burger. The fish…..nothing special, and expensive. The service was great. But the killer that will keep me from giving this place another shot is the salad bar. Now look, I’m not a clean freak. And if I kept super standards there probably wouldn’t be any restaurant I wanted to dine in. But this place has a makeshift salad bar simply sitting out on the open. No covers, sneeze guards, not a thing. Everything is exposed. And when I see something like this I immediately start wondering what conditions exist in areas I can’t see. A total turn off.
Dinner in Traverse City, MI. 1st time here. Dined late around 8:45pm on a Monday. Thus is a bar environment, my service was mediocre, I had their Porter house steak with a bake potato, lettuce wedge and coffee. The steak was cooked to perfection and tasted pretty good. The blue cheese dressing on my lettuce wedge was made in house and, was pretty good. The bake potato was good size and service hot. I thought the prices were a little stiff. I may come back the next time I’m in town.
My co worker were out in the area on business and decided to stop in to eat. Should of checked the reviews. This places prices are waaaayyy to expensive for the price. I had the Prime Rib which according to the waitress is what they are known for, needles to say it tasted old and microwaved. Presentation was awful prime rib with a tin foil lonely potato. Save yourself the your money, there are way better places to eat.
Dichotomy??. Interesting place. Food and service is good. The place is a dump. It is not ‘fine dining” by any means. They should knock $10 off their entrees to match the decor and lack of ambiance.
Have been here twice and have been disappointed both times – mediocre food and service.
Always Great. We live this classic steakhouse. Food is great and consistent and the staff is top notch. Best shrimp cocktail and homemade blue cheese dressing.
The real thing.. For those that are looking for a real restaurant, not a cookie-cutter chain. Their steaks are always excellent and I love the 50s decor. If they were to update the place, I’d probably stop coming. A TC tradition that I learned about from my grandpa 25 years ago when he’d bring me over here for lunch – they haven’t changed a single thing. Try their porterhouse if you’re hungry. The prime rib is also excellent – they’ll bring you a nice rare piece if you ask. You can choose between the wedge and the salad bar – I have NO IDEA why, but the wedge (a quarter of an iceberg lettuce head) is absolutely delicious with bleu cheese or ranch and I always opt for that over their (also decent) salad bar. Their mixed drinks are great too. it’s always packed at night on the weekends and they don’t take reservations, so arrive early, sit at the bar, order their sausage platter and a martini and shoot the breeze until a table opens up.One caution: their sandwiches aren’t very good and are made in a separate area (by the bar). Stick with what they’re known for – you can definitely get better sandwiches anywhere else for cheaper.
