  • Delicious! Restaurant was clean and staff was friendly! Three of us...one had whitfe fish. One had shrimp and white fish. And one had chicken fingers.…

  • Yup. Simple, good (very good), perhaps a little pricey for what you get, but still affordable.…

  • 2 piece basket nothing better…

Scalawags is one of the all time greats when it comes to fish and chips. Each fish is extremely flavorful and fresh with a delicious light outside. My favorite is the lake perch. To go along with a fun, unique, nautical environment, Scalawags is a great eating experience.

Delicious! Fresh fish fried or grilled. Owner stayed open after hours when we walked in the door. Owner personally checked back. Nice touch. Highly recommend!

It was okay…. It’s a fun place decorated with vintage outboard motors, bait-bucket lamps, old oars and fishing poles, etc You order at the counter, then the food is delivered to your table. The service was fast and efficient. At this point we WANTED to like it, but the food was only okay. We had the walleye dinners and the fish was almost tasteless. The two hush puppies were the size of grapes and the french fries and coleslaw pretty generic. The walleye dinners were $15 each so, with drink and tip, it was over $35. Pretty expensive for a meal that didn’t really impress.

Disappointed. I’ll preface this with the fact that I’ve heard great things (here and from friends) and loved their soups at the Downtown Chili Cook Off. That having been said, I was just not impressed with my meal today. To try out a few options, I had a shrimp and whitefish basket and my wife had a perch and whitefish basket. None of the items impressed us in any way. They were all bland, somewhat chewy (even the fries) and as a whole the meal was reminiscent of a childhood meal at the local Long John Silvers. To be fair, nothing tasted bad, it just wasn’t very good.Too bad because the decor was fun, the service was friendly and prompt and it is conveniently located near my office.Next time, if there is one, I’ll try the whitefish chowder instead.

Would have loved to try but…… We would have loved to try this however they were a bit frustrated trying to take our office order and were acting like they were too busy to take our order. It was only a guy (pretty rude not only to the caller in of the order but the new girl) and a new girl (first day) working a lunch shift in downtown TC?!?!?! YIKES I appreciate the fresh and fast featured… but sounds like more staff is needed. And they don’t take AMEX….. oh well…. maybe another time.

Great food, great prices. Off the expensive main strip with very friendly staff. Love this place would go back
