Fantastic meal & outstanding service. I would highly recommend it.
I have to admit this was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I encourage anyone to try at least the five course entree with wine pairings to get a good sample of all they have to offer. Note: if you have reservations outdoors, bring sunglasses … The sunset was right in my eyes and luckily I had mine with me.
Amazing little restaurant in Traverse City! No waiting for drinks and steamy hot food every time:) no complaints. They are perfect. Reservation is a must!
The man knows how to cook! However, they were an hour late with our reservation and 20 min. to get a cocktail. Sour dough rolls were little stones, nonalcoholic drinks tasted like power aide, few vegetarian options, and benches for seating made for a long 2 hour meal. Service once seated was good but they seemed pressed. Will stress that the food was excellent with the tasting menu exceptional. Dining experience hampered by the problems mentioned above.
Private cooking class. My girlfriend and I signed up for a private cooking class, and it did not disappoint.Chef Eric met us at the farmer’s market. He walked us through the market, giving us tips on choosing various items (mushrooms, asparagus, etc).Once we finished up at the market, he led us back to his kitchen. We laid out what we had bought at the market, and he began meal planning. As he was talking us through his thoughts, he began introducing us to different ingredients such as cattail shoots, and giving us a bit more advice on how to pick and preserve produce.I guess my experience won’t have much bearing on the dining experience you’ll receive at the Cook’s House… but holy cow, were the dishes good. The first was a poached egg served on a bed of deer leaf lettuce, drizzled with hazelnut / butter / lemon sauce and garnished with cattail shoots. Next up was an incredibly simple but equally delicious asparagus soup, and the final course was a seared whitefish with a simple butter-leek-potato sauce. The food was delicious, and the techniques he described were invaluable. Afterwards, he recommended some books to us (one of which we promptly went out and bought that day) based on our interests and culinary level. For $100 per person, the class was DEFINITELY worth it. We will definitely be dining here the next time we’re in TC.
A fantastic dinner!. My fianc and I had dinner here last week. It was amazing. I had the seven course dinner with wine pairings. My fianc had the five course dinner with wine pairings. The food was excellent. The service was very good. This is a small restaurant and this provided a very private atmosphere. The dining room was packed and it really felt as if one was dining with a large group. The wine selections perfectly matched each course. The only criticism I have is that the sommelier didn’t really go over why each wine was chosen for each meal. Other than that, the meal was a great experience. I’d highly recommend dining here.
Excellent food prepared with French technique and the consideration of the local farmer’s. Each visit has been a culinary experience.
