Never Again!. I went there recently for chicken shawarma pitas with my boyfriend. When we sat down we waited forever for the waitress to come talk to us. When she finally came over, we ordered pita and garlic sauce, a fatoosh salad, and two chicken shawarmas. It took forever to get the pita and garlic sauce! About 25 minutes after, our waitress came out with our shawarmas. No salad. She completely forgot about it. My sandwich was cold and the chicken inside was still pink and fatty. I was completely disgusted. Unfortunately, our server did not return during our meal to check on us. Only when she dropped off the bill were we able to tell her about the salad (which was still on the bill) and the sandwich. I will never return which is a disappointment because we both enjoyed the pita and garlic dip.

Ok food, laughable service. We usually prefer Pita Cafe, but Grape Leaves has a location that’s easier to get in and out of on a rainy day, so we took the lazy way out. We’ve eaten there 3 or 4 times in the past, and found the food to be decent Middle Eastern food.Unfortunately, after my most recent experience, we won’t be back – thanks to the server. My son and I are seated and given menus by a male, who also brings us water. 5 mintues later, a young woman comes to our booth and says ‘hi’. That’s it…just ‘hi’. So we order. Grape leaves appetizer, chicken saute with jalepenos and cilantro chicken. She never asks if we want drinks.Grape leaves never come.Salads are mediocre – dressing is good, but seriously? Iceberg lettuce and a few spinach leaves?Dinners come – my son’s chicken with jalepenos is FULL of mushrooms, which are NOT on the menu (it is listed directly below ‘chicken saute with mushrooms’). Because I’d ordered the same thing to take out for my husband’s dinner and he will not eat mushrooms (and as my son is picking his out and putting them on my plate, looking unhappy), I asked the waitress to make sure there were no mushrooms in the carry out. I was met with a blank stare. My son says ‘they’re not on the menu’. Another blank stare. She goes back toward the kitchen and a disagreement ensues between her and the manager(?). the food was decent, although my cilantro chicken tasted exactly the same has the chicken saute, except that I had no jalepenos. We had to ask for pita bread. Another blank stare and retreat. At least she brought the pita bread.15 minutes later, we’re done. I’ve witnessed a couple of negative discussions again between our server and the manager. We still have no carry out and no bill. My son goes to the bathroom and on his way, asks the waitress to bring the bill. A few minutes later, she appears and says ‘hi’. I ask for the bill, which she doesn’t have on her (odd, since she has a little book and an apron), so we wait. when the bill comes, she’s charged us for the grape leaves. here’s where the fun begins. We call her back, and tell her she charged us for the grape leaves which we never received. She goes back and talks to manager. She returns to our table and gets out her pad and asks ‘did you order grape leaves’, as she’s looking at our order. We confirm and once again, tell her we never received them. She returns to manager. She returns to us and says ‘you ordered grape leaves’ We reply (again), yes we did, but you never brought them. She is totally confused. Another retreat and heated conversation with manger. Mind you, all this time, we still have no carry out (It seemed to me that some of the discussion as about the fact that the carry out was re-made with mushrooms). She finally returns with the bill sans the grape leaves, but no carry out. I give her my credit card and ask about the carryout. She says they have to make it again. So we sit. And wait another 5 minutes until it came. Although I asked for the salad dressing on the side, it was no the salad. The food was as ordered with no mushrooms. Whew. So, all in all, average food, not as stated on the menu, with a waitress who was unfamiliar with the menu, a manager who stood in the back and argued with her in full sight of the customers and general inefficiency. No one ever asked us how our meals were, refilled water, brought us more pita bread. Why would I return when there are so many other good Middle Eastern restaurants within a few miles? Nope, after this experience, we won’t be back.

All good things.. I’ve always had quick, friendly service. I tended to stop on my way to grocery shop at Whole Foods. They got me in and out despite being a frequently crowded place. My son — who’s 5— is a big hummus connoisseur. It has to be a smooth texture. He gobbles their hummus up.
