The surprises of the tap room. The Tap Room is an interesting venue. The atmosphere is that of a casual neighborhood pub in downtown Ypsilanti. The drink selection is great, and tonight the food caught me off guard. I was prepared to be impressed. I had the mexican meatloaf, and my friend had the mexican pizza. All I have to say is wow, even the rice, beans, and peppers were star players on the platter. Don’t set your expectations too high, but I was quite impressed. The Venue, Drinks, and Food make the Tap Room a winner.
Bar service needs improvement. The burgers are great. The meat comes from knights market. The service at the bar is horrible. If your in a hurry or just plain thirsty for a drink you might die of thirst before the blond bar tender comes to your rescue. I am not kidding. The customer is not treated with any respect. At least I was not. The building is historic and beautiful and the live mic night and music are a gem. Strange working class crowd with a bohemian mix. Has cheap drink prices…posted on web site. Avoid the house vodka at all cost. It’s aristocrat vodka and is cheaper than five 0’clock vodka. This stuff is an industrial cleaner to boot and should not be consumed by anyone living. Lighting too dark. could be a great bar with a bartender shuffle and some attitude adjustment with some of the staff.

The food was good when it finally came but this was one of my most frustrating dining experience ever. I’m inclined to be lenient towards a server if the server is busy (I wait tables myself and understand) but the servers here have no idea what they are doing. It took us 20 minutes to get a menu. We decided to stay, which was a poor decision as we didn’t get our food for almost an hour and our server forgot to place one of the orders so my boyfriend had to wait another fifteen minutes for his burrito. Highly NOT recommended.
Best bbq bacon burger ever. The meat comes from nearby Knight’s market, fresh ground. The bbq sauce is made here in Ypsi- I always order it with a side of jalepeno, and it’s killer.
