Food lets down the bar. The atmosphere, style, and concept of this bar is great; however, it’s let down by the food. My brat was super dry to the point of barely edible. My bud’s hamburger was also not good. The pretzel bun was good and I believe locally imported. The sweet potato tots were good, the regulars were just that regular. I may give it one more try at some point.
Good drinks, good food, good place to chill. Love this place — cool, chill vibe, awesome bar, good beer selection and great food. It’s even vegetarian friendly. I am a vegetarian with a distaste for fake meat, but despite this, the chick-fu sandwich (faux chicken sandwich) on a pretzel bun is my absolute favorite thing to get here and keeps me coming back.
I can’t say enough about this great place. As a vegetarian, I was super impressed with the selection of vegetarian options. And not just a veggie pita that everyone does. We were waited on at the bar by what we later found out was the owner. What a passionate and friendly guy. He had us trying new things and it made our dining experience 10 times better. The three of us ordered a ton of stuff because we were so excited to try everything. Pimento cheese with warm pretzel bites (amazing!), vegetarian poutine tater tots (I died and went to heaven), seitan bratwurst, vegetarian broccoli cheese soup (lucky me on special that night) and the manager had me try the new Asian tofu that was better than any other I’ve had. My friends ranted about the whitewash sandwich and brats. Did I mention the beer selection?! Holy cow..and that night had bourbon barreled drafts. On top of all of this, the prices are beyond reasonable for such an epic menu. This gem puts little hipster restaurants in trendy places like Ferndale (don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan) to shame. Can’t wait to go back!
Great Food and Awesome Beer. I finally had a chance to try this place (twice) on my latest visit to Michigan. This is my kind of bar. The burgers and brats are delicious and they have an awesome of local craft beer on tap, and a great selection of craft beers in bottles/cans. I had the special burger the first time (pepper stuffed brisket with bacon and cheddar) and it was excellent! The burger was cooked a perfect medium and the fillings/toppings were all delicious. The second visit I had the Rattlesnake Chorizo. I couldn’t really pick up the rattlesnake over the spicy pork chorizo, but it was still a really good brat that was full of flavor. I also like that sweet sauce that comes with the mixed tots; it’s a nice change of pace from ketchup and mustard.I’ll definitely be coming back to Wurst Bar during my next visit to try some more Michigan craft beers on tap and eating some delicious food.
Love this place! Alligator wurst is great. Like the atmosphere and huge selection of booze.
Brat’s and Beer – Perfect combination. I had my first adventure to the Wurst Bar in Ypsilanti, Michigan this week. I visited the wurst bar with my family and some friends. The restaurant is nicely decorated with high tables and wrap around booths which give a ‘bar’ feeling but also invites you to sit and have dinner. The food is delicious. We started with a Pimento cheese appetizer and then each one of us tried a home made sausage with Tater tots. I had the Bison & Lamb Merguez sausage (made on site) on a bioche roll (made locally) with grilled onions and pepper. Delicious!!!. I also really loved the tater tots. They taste much better than the ones I can make at home. To top it all off, the Wurst Bar has a huge selection of Michigan beers on tap and in the bottle. We managed to catch a $2 draft happy hour (Michigan Beer for $2… amazing). To top it all off, the service was friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable regarding their menu and beer selection. Overall, I’m very satisfied with my visit and I’ll be going back soon. (Can’t wait to try the Mr. Peanut Butter burger)
Brats to dream about, unique menu, crazy but cool decor, wurst staff and wurst menu….SO AMAZING!!!!
