Black Bear has great food and a really good Sunday brunch – brunch is a decent price for the amount and variety of foods offered. A decent place to eat while in Brainerd!
Great food. The scallops here are divine and huge. the fisherman’s platter is well worth the price. the portion sizes are large. getting the steak is also very very tasty. it was charred just like you would get at a char house. they also give you a warm dark bread, I think pumpernickel, with whipped maple butter. the service was great, polite, and fast. all in all it was one of the best places I’ve ate at.
It’s alright…. I basically go there for the chicken wild rice soup and the house salad. Those are the two best things on the menu, in my opinion. My one big issue with the place is one waitress in particular. I don’t know her name but she needs to get a personality and maybe try smiling and being friendly once in a while. She’s pretty much downright rude. She’s been there forever and I always seem to get her when I eat there. Lucky me.
This place is great!. I have been going to the Black Bear lodge with my family for years. Their soup is homemade and absolutely worth the trip! Awesome salads, great atmosphere, and friendly service are only a few of the reasons we always return. GREAT FOOD–you just have to see for yourselves! I highly recommend the wild rice soup!
Great place!. Have been going to Black Bear for the past few months. We recently moved here and have been nothing but impressed. The staff as well as the service is beyond imprressive. We really enjoy how everyone knows your name and actually takes the time to listen and care for your needs. The menu is outstanding and the fact that they create weekly specials is just another sign that the owner and his Team believe in what they do and that they are here to stay…..great job!
Just drive on by! The bear should be dead!!. This place doesn’t even warrant one star, unless you’re giving points on the price of the food. I have gotten better hamburgers on the 99 cent menu from McDonald’s than the $9.00 burger at this joint. The grill obviously had not been cleaned in a while. The meat was charred and the appearance was not at all appetizing. No condiments on the burger–just a tomato slice that was so unripe that it was almost white and a piece of soggy lettuce and a shoestring of onion. If you want to substitute onion rings for the chips, add another $2.35. A major rip-off!!! Don’t order the meatloaf dinner, either. That entire plate was definitely rewarmed leftovers from who knows when…. clumpy mashed potatoes, canned gravy and meatloaf burned on the outside from being put on the dirty grill. YUK!!! Even the china plate was scratched and cracked. Like another reviewer said, the place appears to be an upscale establishment, but the service and food sure are inferior. There appeared to be two wait staff for the entire dining room. We overheard our waiter, Curt tell some other customers that he was bartending as well as serving. Maybe he was cooking, too?? We would have discussed our disappointment with the evening’s fare if our waiter would have stopped at our table long enough for us to comment. He would say something as he walked by and two booths up the way he was finishing the sentence directed at us. We are not sour grapes about the price–we were looking for a relaxing meal in a peaceful setting, but what we received was no better than any fast food restaurant.
