I’ve been to their other location in Northeast Minneapolis several times; however, this was my first time at the Mall of America location. I was wanting their eggplant izakaya. I thought I would get it and maybe another izakaya plate as light dinner before getting 1000 calories milk tea at Chatime next door. Good thing I was at the biggest mall in the country. The probability of me walking the mall to burn off those calories was pretty big.They had an abbreviated menu compared to their non mall location. My eggplant izakaya wasn’t on the menu. Bummer. I decided on katsudon. It’s usually a bowl of rice topped with crispy breaded pork cutlet like a schnitzel, covered with this eggy and onion sauce. This one was a gingery rice that was good, topped with crispy pork cutlet, doused with tonkatsu barbecue sauce, gai lan/Chinese broccoli, and a poached egg. It wasn’t what I expected and was a little disappointed that it wasn’t the classic katsudon. It was like I was watching a classic movie – all the characters were there but played by someone else.It was okay. I have never been that big of a fan of Masu. I like a couple things on their menu but can’t say I love it.
