Decent Food at a Decent Price. This was my first experience at a Sonic restaurant. We don’t have this chain where I live. That doesn’t stop me from being bombarded by their television commercials, so I thought I would find out if this place was any good or not.I arrived at the location and it wasn’t very busy. There were a number of slots to park. The menu board is easy to decipher and I had heard that their strength was the beverage selection. They have the usual selection of burgers, hot dogs and chicken that is found at most fast food joints. I decided on the pretzel dog and a strawberry chocolate milkshake. I pushed the red button and placed my order. Two pretzel dogs and a medium shake was under $8. A waitress roller skated to my car in just a few minutes. She thanked me for my business and delivered the food to me. The food came in a bag and the hot dogs were in small cartons inside the bag. When I told her it was my first visit to a Sonic…she dramatically welcomed me to the franchise. It was a fun gesture…not a sarcastic one. It gave me a chuckle. The bun on the pretzel dogs were fresh. The hot dog seems to be steamed. I prefer grilled, but I must admit that the bun and hot dog made for a tasty combination. One downside is that the pretzel dog is served with mustard and they had put on far too much. It wasn’t a very large portion, but having ordered two, I didn’t leave hungry. The milkshake was tremendous. A very strong flavour of choclate with pieces of strawberry mixed in. It isn’t too thick and I was able to drink it easily. Of the fast food style places I have tried, I would put this milkshake at the top of the list. One complaint is that the stalls to park in are quite narrow. It makes it tough to open the car door to get out of the car to throw out the garbage once the meal is over. My conclusion was that Sonic represents a good value. It is fairly cheap and a more than reasonable quality. I was pleasantly surprised. Now if only their tv commercials weren’t so annoying….
