Our Mexican go-to place!. We’ve been going to La Fonda for many years. The food is excellent, service is excellent! Our favorite waiter is Oscar – but any of the staff are great. Their margaritas are perfect and the fried ice cream is the best we’ve ever tasted!
Frequent diner. We’ve been going to La Fondas for years. The margaritas are the best in the Twin Cities. Hubby loves the #5 and I always get the enchilada suizas. I’ve tried the enchilada suizas across the US and no one holds a candle. Their enchilada sauce to fantastic. The chimi machaca beef is hard to beat. I suspect that the bad reviewers have little to no exposure to food outside of Minnesota. when they compare La Fondas to El Loro is my first clue
Not impressed. The chips tasted like plastic and our meals tasted like nothing. There was no sauce inside my enchilada, just plain chicken. My husband’s shrimp enchiladas had tiny shrimp that tasted really fishy. The margs we’re good, but the service was really slow. A sign outside said they needed cooks and dishwashers, so that may explain the delays. Overall, not great.
Good comfort food for southwest folks. I really enjoyed the food primarily because it is in the southwest style, which for me is ‘comfort food’. Everyone likes their Mexican food different, just like everyone like their pizza different. For me, southwest style is what I grew up with. The owner is often seen running around and a very nice and attentive man. They have a large restaurant area and another large sports bar area downstairs, I’ve been to both as this sports ‘cantina’ is the area home of the Denver Broncos! It is a family place, not super fancy, but they have a pretty large menu and seem to execute it well. Nice margaritas, nothing fancy like Masa, but good basic stuff. Its location is sort of out in the middle of nowhere but at least there is plenty of parking.
I’m kind of a margarita snob. La Fonda does them right!
The service is great. However, the food… Not so much.
Not very good.. My wife and I use to live close to La Fonda. We tried it a handful of times and was never satisfied. Their food isn’t all that good. It’s easily the worse Mexican place I have been to in the cities. We won’t be going back.
