Me, my husband and our two year old son came for lunch in a Monday. It was busy enough for a Monday at 1:00, we were greeted and seated promptly. Our server, Jose Angel, came with chips and salsa promptly and took our drink order. The chips and salsa were good, we do prefer a chunkier and spicier salsa- but did appreciate a hint of spice and that it appeared to be made in house. My husband got a tap beer, very reasonably priced and I got a special order margarita which I asked no salt and still got. Not that big of a deal, as I know it’s commonly overlooked, as bartenders are in such a habit to salt the rim they sometimes don’t even realize they forgot to leave it off. My drink was just as I ordered and also very reasonable price. We put our food order in when he came with our drinks. I ordered a tossed salad and the huevos con chorizo, I appreciated that he brought my salad first. The Salad was nothing special, but it was just a small starter salad. My meal was good. The chorizo had good flavor, as did the retried beans. I am not a huge fan of the chunks of vegetables in the Mexican rice, but the overall meal was a 7 out of 10. My son got the tamale which had shredded pork inside and they serve it with ground beef, enchi sauce and cheese on top. We got ours with no cheese and sauce in the side. The texture of the tamale was right on, the pork had decent flavor, but again we like spice! The ground beef appeared almost plain, very little seasoning. I am very glad we got the sauce on the side, it literally tasted like Campbell tomato soup and same consistency, with possibly a hint of seasoning. My husband got the carne asada. He really enjoyed the asada and the retried beans. He feels the same way as me about the vegetables in the rice- but to each there own. The guacamole on his plate appeared to come from a pre made package, and completely lacked any seasoning. All of our meals were very reasonably priced. Our server was prompt, friendly, and polite. My husband and I agreed that the overall experience was a 7 out of 10. We will come again, when in the area, as we live in St. Paul.

Mexican couisine made by mexicans. The owners are great and the food is the best. They have two other locations but you have to come the original. It’s the best in Hastings. I haven’t found anything on the menu That don’t like. Long live the memory of HECTOR!

Great food at a good price. But the owner need to be careful with some of their new policies. Let’s not forget how you got where you are today. I had been a long time customer who will no longer visit the resturaunt. Please consider Tamales the next time you crave a great Mexican dinner. Gary B.

The cheese dip alone is worth the trip.
