Apparently Trump says this is the best breakfast in America. That said I guess I prefer eating my eggs without being bombarded by pro-life posters, but thats just me. Politics aside, the food was decent. Ive had better, I’ve had worse. Service was pretty bad. They forgot to bring cream and sugar with coffee, the food took forever and when it did come, it wasnt accompanied by any silverware. Also the coffee was pretty weak.
Best and worst beef reuben sandwich. I don’t get it. I had the best beef reuben sandwich a few months ago at this restaurant. I returned this past weekend and order the same sandwich. It was the worst beef reuben sandwich that I ever had. The beef was dry, bread was soggy and flavors did not come together. What happened??

Neighborhood gem ;). Great home style food, superb malteds and comfortable, country farm-type atmosphere with friendly, efficient staff! Will definitely be back!
Very Disappointed. I am surprised at some of the other reviews of this restaurant. First of all, service is not only slow, but almost non-existant. It took about 10 minutes for the waitress to come to our table (even though the restaurant was about 1/4 full). The broccoli soup was like cement and the BLT was dry and unappetizing. I ordered a chicken melt. It was an extremely bland sandwich. The chicken was not seasoned enough and the bread was soggy. Even the cheese on the melt was tasteless. If nothing else, they need to revamp their kitchen staff (or give them new training on how to cook). The final capper was the owner (I think that was the owner) was using a drill next to our booth. He was drilling holes in the floor and doing some pounding with a hammer. Definitely not a restaurant that considers their customers first.
Waitress very nice. Food was cold even after returned and microwaved. Manager with the last name Gorman was extremely rude to my older father who had just paid the large bill for the extended family. Not just one meal mind you….but every meal was cold. He laughed at the thought of any discount. I have never seen that type of disrespect to customers in my life. I will never return to that place again and I will do everything in my power to make sure everyone else I know doesnt return either.
O.K. Food..But Best Malt’s Around!. Growing up in Lake Elmo, I have been to Gorman’s (used to be The White Hat) many times, more so in the past as a youth when I would ride my bike with my brother and friend on the rare occasion we would have enough money for more than a 50 cent candy bar at what used to be the 76 gas station…ah memories of innocent youth, before the discovery of hallucinogens.Anywho, the date has changed, and the place has been tastefully remodeled with an ode to the nostalgic yesteryear’s of Lake Elmo, complete with newspaper clippings and photographs of a bygone era, but the food has stayed the same, about what you would expect from a greasy spoon type diner/restaurant. Nothing on the menu is worth bragging about, in fact it is uninspired, and medicore (keep the salt nearby), but should you opt for the $5 malt in any flavor you will not be disappointed! Like in Pulp Fiction, when Vincent Vega has to find out what a $5 dollar malt tastes like, and is not disappointed, you will not be either if you try the famous Gorman’s malt. It comes in a large glass, with a generous dollop of real whip cream, and a cherry on top just like the old days, and you get a cooled steel container filled with backup malt, so you won’t be longing for more, at least not on the same day, once it is all gone. One word of warning if you do go; weekends are especially busy, specifically after church on Sunday’s, as the establishment has been around a very long time and has a loyal following.
