Inconsistant and, has potential not yet met. First visit was great, second so-so, third was more along the lines of the second. It is obvious they put much into this shop, but it seems to share more of the rural expectations than the more urban competitors the wait staff compared them to. Seems to be a great place for local business people to meet, throw back a few and do business, and the local residents place for a night out, but it just doesn’t seem to have the goal to take advantage of the potential. It’s like they are getting 80% of the higher-end restaurant business correct, but the missing 20% is what makes it all happen. With regard to the cut, favor, consistancy of the beef, I’d rank it with Pittsburgh Blue, and the Wildfire, but not with the more well-known steak venues. I think we might go back every six months or so to see if it gets any better, but will be staying with the more well-know for those special and family events.
Poor Meal. My husband and I went to have the porterhouse….it was full of fat and tendons…..NOT impressed considering the price. Chianti Grill…..so much better.
Never again. I will say the atmosphere was nice. First off we received the wrong salads and then the wrong steaks. The manager came over and said sorry for the mix up and we will only charge you for the food you ordered. Really? Not impressed with the customer service and we won’t be going back.
Being a steak snob, I’ve heard about porterhouse quite a bit. I’ve wanted to try this place for probably over a year now, and finally had a chance to this past weekend. This is a good value, quality steak place. It is not, however, on par with Manny’s, which i would rate as the #1 steak joint in the twin cities (with Fogo being a close #2). In terms of bang for your buck, its a good steak experience. The service was good. A few specifics on our meal: I had the large ribeye, medium, and the Mrs. Had the NY strip, medium well. My steak was a bit over cooked, and hers was undercooked. There was a bit of excess charring of my steak, and the wife noted the same on hers. Lastly, I was expecting more flavor, and had to compensate by adding quite a bit of salt. When the bill showed up, i was pretty happy knowing I would have paid 2x that amount at Manny’s. In summary, you are getting what you pay for. You can save a bit and get a decent steak at porterhouse, or splurge a bit and get a big time steak experience at Manny’s.
Amazing!. We have been here 4 times and keep going back! Their specials for V-day and New Years Eve were amazing – Lobster with Filet Minoan, Shrimp Cocktail, Salad, Bread, Dessert plus a $25 gift card for $99.00 – great deal! We will keep going back, we have always had a great experience and amazing food!
Not a real fan. My wife and I have been to the Porterhouse once, and probably won’t go back. It’s not because the food isn’t good, because it is. It’s because I think the place is way over priced. I just don’t like to spend that kind of money on a meal when I can go to a place like Rudy’s Red Eye Grill and get something equally as good for a lot less. If you want to spend a lot of money on a special occasion then the Port House is a good choice, but I don’t so won’t be going back. Porterhouse is a lot like the new Copper River. It’s not the food that’s the problem. It’s the price! I just really don’t think there is much of a market for downtown, Minneapolis or St. Paul high end places here in the sticks. At least there isn’t for me.
This place was just OK. My steak was not that tender and definitely not dry aged. It would have been a more pleasurable experience if the young couple in a table close to us had not been dropping F bombs on each other in a loud tone.
