Advertising fine Food in a fine enough setting it was for Breakfast on Tuesday that a table at The Kenwood was occupied, its location not far from sizable homes surrounding Lake of the Isles creating a clientele of well-heeled regulars at Chef Don Saunders Restaurant opened in 2012. Designed to be a three-meal neighborhood eatery but gathering enough acclaim over time to attract attention from throughout The Twin Cities, rollover Menus from 8am until nighttime Tuesday through Sunday offering everything from Coffee and Pastries to Wild Boar Pappardelle, it was just prior to 10am daily Brunch that the decision was made to focus on sweeter selections, a bottomless cup of Coffee treated as such while light music played overhead in a space rich in plaid and wood. Not waiting long to begin, only two tables occupied as Chefs busied themselves with mis en place for later, it was along with the first refill of piping hot brew that two Pastries arrived, the Banana Bread unfortunately a bit dry but improved by Salted Butter while the Black Walnut Coffee Cake suffered in no such way by being rich and moist but not too sweet thanks to Black Walnuts not only on top but blended into the Batter.Continuing further with the Black Walnut theme to finish, a light rain now falling outside, it was in order to preserve stomach space for additional eating that one Pancake was ordered instead of three, the $5.00 plus one extra for Walnut Butter and Pure Maple Syrup worth every cent thanks to an airy yeasted base that is served bronze and crisp, though had one known it was this good ahead of time the larger stack for $11 would have been worth the extra cardio. endoedibles.com
I’ve been to the Kenwood twice, once for lunch and once for breakfast. Both times I received exceptional service, everyone is extremely friendly and attentive. The most memorable dish was the heuvos rancheros, delicious, juicy pulled pork topped with a fried egg and served with avocado and pickled jalapeno. Nice little breakfast pastry selection as well. A great spot for a casual brunch or lunch, relaxing and inviting atmosphere.
Fantastic!! Seriously tasty…every item we had for breakfast! The OJ was the best ever. Delicious rosemary potatoes, pancakes with walnut butter…mmmm. Going back for brunch to try the Huervos Rancheros! Looking forward to summer dinner there, followed by a walk around the lake. Great service, too!
What a fantastic place for a summer lunch on the patio. Far away from the traffic noise that ruins most outdoor dining spots, this neighborhood eatery is quiet and beautiful. The Kenwood Burger is a sloppy triumph and, by asking the server, you discover there are three different aoli for dipping French fries. Interesting by the glass wine list, too. Delightful!
