This is a 3.5 rating because of the service experience while eating here. My vegan and gluten-free waffle, when I finally received it, was a four star rating I was visiting my sister in Minneapolis. I took her, my brother-in-law, and my two nephews out for breakfast. We got in at exactly the right time = a small line and an open table for the five of us.The person at the register who took our order was super friendly and kind. We ordered coffee, and waited to hear my name. Regrettably, many people came in after us and we could barely hear each other at the table. We walked over to see if our drinks were ready almost 10 minutes later. They were, but we couldnt differentiate which drink had almond milk and which drink had regular milk. When I asked the cashier if he knew, he was curt with his answer. I assume the curtness was because there were three employees total, a line out the door, and a 40-minute wait for waffles. We waited. And waited. I think 25 minutes in all. Everyones waffle came except mine. Almost 10 minutes later, I had to go and check if they forgot my waffle, because I still didnt have it. Only after that did someone bring over my waffle. As you can see from the picture, it looks amazing. And tasted every bit as good as it looked.Memorial Day definitely wasnt the day to visit. Ill be back in Minneapolis later this summer, and hope to give them a second try then.

I really want to like this place: they can make a killer latte with dogwood espresso and they serve the most beautiful waffles–but it was a downright awful experience. We went on a Sunday at 11am, which in hindsight was our first mistake. Our second mistake was not ordering to go. The tiny place was packed wall to wall and there was no air conditioning and no open windows or doors, which made it so hot in there that stepping back outside into the high 70s feel blissfully cool. Then we had to wait for over 45 minutes to get two waffles which were good, but not worth that kind of wait and the heat. This place has a pretty serious Instagram following, which was evident by the age group and most likely the reason they were willing to tolerate that. Again, I want to like this place and a part of me wants to try it again. But I felt really bad for being the one to suggest it and subjecting my friends to that experience. Bottom line: I don’t recommend going to this place until they get an air conditioner and a better handle on their wait times.
OK place for a casual waffle. If you’re looking for a solid place for waffles, this is a good spot. Casual (college-like) atmosphere. Good place if you want to feel young 🙂 Waffles aren’t amazing or anything are a bit pricy for waffles, but there are many fun toppings to choose from. The Ham and swiss is a really good choice. They also have weekend specials that are a bit more creative. Coffee is Dogwood, which is too bitter for my taste, but many like it. Don’t care how they invite you to tip (they use Square for POS) since you order at the counter and bus your own plates! I didn’t tip.
Focused Menu, Great Coffee. Recent changes at this eatery have brought the old Muddsuckers into the modern age. The switch to Dogwood coffee with all the hardware and training that comes along with it means this little place in Como neighborhood can serve up a classic cappuccino that stands up alongside city gems like Urban Bean. A fine selection of creative waffles is there to elevate this place to a niche between solitary coffee shop and sit-down restaurant; I ordered the naughty waffle with almond butter and nuts, while my friend got a strawberry shortcake waffle and we both relished each bite. With friendly, knowledgeable staff and a generous helping of comfortable places to sit, I would recommend Black Coffee and Waffle Bar for anybody in the neighborhood who wants a perfect cup and a bite to eat with no fuss.
Dirty. This place is dirty and disgusting. The lattes we ordered were terrible. The girl behind the counter was ambivalent and rude.
