Not worth the price. I don’t know what I was expecting for a Sushi place, but Obento-Ya is not worth the price. They sell dressed up ramen for $10 and medium quality sushi for about $5 dollars a piece. If you are a college student looking to eat a satisfying meal for under $20 dollars, look elsewhere.
Slipping. The past couple of visits for dinner, the house ramen has been disappointing. On a recent visit none of the elements in my bowl were distinct. It looked almost as if the bowl had been delivered to someone else who stirred it all up and then sent it back to the kitchen. The pork had a good flavor but lacked the fresh taste and texture of previous visits. It seemed as if the pork slices had been deep fried. This disappointment aside, the sushi was good – especially the mackerel and ahi. I was a little concerned about the timing of ordering the sushi as an appetizer, and sure enough we waited too long to receive it and the soup arrived before we finished the appetizer. The service from our hulking waitress was clunky; she had trouble deftly negotiating the demands of the small and room. I’ve had better luck for lunch when they are less busy.25 Aug, 2012Yah-Hey Ubento. Ramen: Plenty of nicely grilled and caramelized pork slices, a good hearty broth, noodles with a nice chew, and adequate dollops of seaweed and scallions to compliment it all. Overall it had a great sesame-ginger flavor. The one complaint would be that the whole thing was a bit too salty.
Nice little restaurant- good food – good atmosphere. One of our favorite Japanese restaurants. If we lived closer to the restaurant, we would probably go there more often. We’ve been there several times. The Bento boxes are beautifully presented, and the food is good — from the sushi, to tempura and the side dishes that come with it. I love their green tea latte. The kids really liked the Ramune, the Japanese pop with a little glass ball in the neck of the bottle. The restaurant is small with a very simple, urbane atmosphere. They have a lovely patio in the back with a fountain, that my son found very fascinating. The servers are always been friendly and accommodating when we’ve been there.
