Change happens. Surdyk’s, once known for its competitive prices and good service has decided to take advantage of the upscale gentrification of their neighborhood. They still have decent service. But they have gone for gouging prices, imo.
Seriously?. No, seriously. Someone is actually irritated that they check bags? What do you think, nobody has ever tried jacking anything with their backpack before? I mean I’m not in love with Surdyk’s or anything and go mostly because it’s a few blocks from where I live and thus extremely convenient, but get real. So they took your bag. Sit in a corner and cry about it.
The deli has great prices on cheese, but other than that this place is a rip-off. The domestic microbrews are all way overpriced, the wine at retail price is always 10-20% higher than other liquor stores, and the liquor too. Their wine selection is great, however. But when time permits, Ill go out of my way to Chicago Lake Liquors, where a decent twelve pack is still under 12 bucks.
Excellent deli, happens to be next to a liquor store.. I can’t get enough of the deli in this place. They have some of the best cured meats you’ll find in the Twin Cities. I’m particularly fond of the jamon serrano and the Vermont cloth bound cheddar.The wine shop (read: liquor store) part isn’t too shabby either.
