An incredible experience!!!!!. From the previous review it’s hard to believe that we are even talking about the same restaurant. My wife and I were visiting Rochester, and heard about 300 First from our server at another restaurant. On his recommendation we went to 301st that evening, andwe couldn’t have been more delighted. Indeed this will be a Restaurant that we will definitely go to whenever we are back in the Rochester area.Ambience: 301st is in a converted building that may have been At one time a warehouse. The open ceiling and brick walls give it a warm welcoming and relaxed feeling. Kathy and I both felt immediately at ease.Service: From the initial greeting by the hostess who seated us to the bartender who assisted us with wine selection, and our server the level of service was exceptional. It was attentive without being obtrusive and provided us with a wonderful dining experience. Our server gave us excellent suggestions for meal selections. This was particularly important since this was our first time at this restaurant.Food: Kathy will almost always go for a fish course for her entre, and that night was no exception. She had a wonderful perfectly done piece of Swordfish With perfect accompaniments. I am not usually one to choose pork however on the recommendation of our server I had pork loin which was accompanied by Red cabbage and mash potatoes covered by an extraordinary sauce of molasses and coffee. It was absolutely to die for!Value: I really don’t understand the comments about the restaurants pricing. We come from a small town where pricing is an issue but even at that we found the prices to More than reasonable and in particular given the overall quality of food the service and the ambience.Recommendation: if you haven’t tried 301st yet you certainly need to, and if you have been were disappointed I think that perhaps you definitely need to give it another chance because our experience was absolutely fabulous.
Painful Experience. If I didn’t know better I would guess the name was based on the movie 300. My entire meal felt like some grueling Spartan endurance test. I had their Arancini, though they were called rice balls or something ridiculous. They came with an artichoke tomato sauce. Not a bad concept for a dish but their execution was a dismal failure. The artichokes were straight from a jar and still had some of the inedible outer leaves on them. Moreover, the artichokes were not caramelized and seemed to be just tossed into a boring tomato sauce. On top of the disappointing food the service was incredibly slow and inattentive. Also the atmosphere was just plain bizarre. It was sort of set up for fine dining but there was techno music blaring and televisions all over the walls. We were also seated next to this tacky liquor advertisement with flashing lights that probably should be in the living room of a frat house. The only real enjoyment I got from my incredibly over-priced experience was mocking the decor with my companions. I really have no idea what they are trying to do here but they failed. Simply don’t go.
This used to be a great establishment approximately 2-6 months ago, then all of the sudden the happy hour specials were gone. This place is getting worse by the second, but if you are looking for sub par food for high prices this is the place for you.
Great spot for apps, drinks, and steaks. Pricey, but worth it if you want a meal worthy of your tastebuds… Especially the apps!
After 3 terrific times ordering the brick baked chicken Incan say it is one if my favorite meals in town. Always great!
Mixed bag. We’ve been 4 times. First time was awesome, had filets and couldn’t believe how great it was. We had the butternut squash appetizer and it was fabulous. Prices were high though. Went back the second time and had a filet that was so fatty it was disgusting and I couldn’t really eat it. Went back the 3rd time and just did wine and apps at the bar–service was fine, food was great (1/2 price apps and drinks at late night). Fourth time was a huge group, food was good, service was prompt. Overall, it is fine, but food is hit or miss and the prices are high.
If I have friends coming from out of town, I like to take them here. Fun atmosphere. Last time I went, I got the pecan-crusted fish, and I’m still daydreaming about that meal:).
