Takeout Trouble. We have always dined in at Hunan Restaurant and always enjoyed the food. This time we ordered takeout. Chicken and broccoli (nummy) and Mongolian Beef (not so nummy). The dish consisted of 75% bamboo shoots, practically no green onions and very little beef. I called as soon as we opened it at home. The woman on the phone proceeded to tell me the takeout portion/ratio is different than dine in. That they add more bamboo shoots to takeout and that most customers pay $1 or $2 extra for more beef. She also said they have had other calls about the amount of bamboo shoots. I mentioned they should probably inform customers of this discrepancy and her response was that she would let the owner know. Didn’t offer to remake it or refund our money. Not helpful at all. Extremely disappointed. I have never ordered Mongolian beef and received such a low quality dish.
I have lived in Rochester my entire life and Hunan is my favorite Chinese restaurant in town. They have a very nice, spacious, dinning area and they’re menu is great. Highly suggested if you want Chinese tonight.
It’s true – it really is the best in town. I don’t know why everyone hypes up Hunan Garden, which is a different restaurant than Hunan. Honestly, Hunan is worlds beyond Hunan Garden in flavor. I have yet to find a Chinese restaurant better than this one, and I’ve been to pretty much every Chinese restaurant in town. Look no further than this place for delicious Sesame Chicken (my favorite – their sauce is amazing, you could eat it with a spoon it’s so good), General Tso’s Chicken, Orange Chicken, Hunan Beef – it’s all absolutely delicious! Try it! You will love this place!
By far the best Chinese in Rochester, Mn. Typical menu but food is just tastier! I get the Garlic chicken almost every time and it’s always as good as the last time! Some of the sweeter dishes, sesame chicken or tiger pork, can sometimes be a little too sweet but usually spot on. Hunan is the only Chinese restaurant in Rochester that I order beef dishes at because it’s the only chinese restaurant that has tender delicious beef! As far as fried food goes Hunan clearly takes the time and care to maintain clean fryer oil at the right temperature! Their egg rolls and crab rangoons are the same premade products you get at every Chinese joint anywhere but they don’t taste like the same thing you can get anywhere! Also the egg drop soup is some of the best I’ve had. It’s soup with a very rich egg flavor. Such a simple soup that very few get right. Hunan has got my vote!!
Best Chinese in Rochester and probably one of the better chinese restaurant I’ve had since I got back from Asia. Their sauces taste really authentic. They also have a really good lunch special which is competitive with the other chinese restaurants.
Best Chinese in Rochester. Before you waste your money at the other ‘typical’ chinese restaurants in town, make your way to Hunan (located by Kmart). Do not confuse this with the other Hunan restaurants in town, you may be disappointed. Some things to try include the Braised Shrimp, Crispy Chicken, House Egg Foo Young, Spicy Green Bean and the Tiger Pork. We have always great service and prices are very fair.
