Nothing special about this place. Not bad but there are better Mexican options. No salsa bar. Food options are varied and authentic but flavors are underwhelming.
Yummy and the price was spot on. Fresh ingredients, friendly fast service, and yummy food. Enough said!
Not so great. Unfortunately it seems La Poblana on 37th is using precooked chicken. I ordered the lunch enchilada platter, and the chicken was very rubbery. The red enchilada sauce, beans, and rice were fantastic. However, I was overcharged for the second time. Disappointed.
Don’t miss this little gem. We’re fussy about Mexican food. This is a very authentic little place in the back of a tiny grocery. We never miss a chance to eat there when we visit the Mayo and we’re never disappointed in the food. A charming couple run the place and our service has always been great. If you love the real deal then this is your place!
Authentic Mexican Cuisine in a Colorful atmosphere. Note for people reading about the pricing problem: the cost of our dinner was accurate and as-advertised in the menu. If you order steak it adds $1.50, so when you get to the front (where you pay, not at the table), the cost of your dinner that you’re told is $1.50 + the tax so it initially seems higher, but it is all depicted on the receipt. I think since the notice in the menu that changing the meat option (from the default chicken) increases the price is only located in one spot, people are missing it and then not aware that they upgraded their meal along with the price (appropriately, it was $1.50 to go from chicken to steak which is completely reasonable). So this was not an issue for us, and other people may have just been mistaken. My wife and I really enjoyed it. My Fajita platter served up a generous portion of steak, even if my wife’s Huaracha platter was a little underwhelming. The wait staff were attentive and very polite. Atmosphere was conducive to conversation but also fun. Two big flat screens were playing futbol, and the mini-mexican tienda in the front of the store adds some legit cultural flare. The overall price, I’d say, is worth it if you consider the food ‘legit mexican cuisine’ but more expensive than say Azteca, and not necessarily tastier. Ex: we paid $31 (tip included) for dinner for two, and our meal was definitely worth that (again, loved the fajita platter), but the same dinner at Azteca would’ve been probably $25 total.
Good but….. We really like to go here but people are correct about the pricing. Went here for lunch and we each had a 3 taco plater with waters which on the menu is 9.99 for chicken but when we paid at the register we ended up paying 25.87… hmm math never adds up here. Also beware that if they do mess up your dish you are probably suck with it.But we also still keep going back because it is good and fresh just don’t expect your price to be what you think it is… plan for a few dollars extra. We also like going for dinner better.
Best Mexican food in Rochester. Everything on the menu is delicioso!! Prices are not bad at all, I don’t know what these people are saying about over priced. The servers are friendly. This place is in the back of a little Mexican grocery store, it’s easy to miss but you should NOT miss it. I hear they just opened a second place on 37th street? With a drive through?
