Very good sushi that is fresh and presented well. The staff is the best and they take pride in making sure you have a good experience. By far the best place in the West End
Never Again.. This review relates to our experience at the West End (SLP) Raku and their need to have grown-ups supervising their establishment, even during slow times. First, the sushi was just OK. Ive had better, and Ive had far worse in this town. We arrived later in the evening and the place was empty but for two other tables waiting to cash out; they sat us at a high top across from the bar. The bartender was entertaining two off-duty employees, or off-duty employees of one of the many restaurants in the area. Our first sign something was amiss: the obnoxious and expletive-laden hip-hop music playing over the house sound system, including multiple f-bombs and requests for oral copulation by LA hoes. Im no prude, but anyone who doesnt have their head completely wedged up their backside has to know that this is inappropriate. We ordered beer and wine, and the trouble began. It was obvious that the bartender was intoxicated. Our helpful, and mortified, server had to step behind the bar and locate the correct wine himself. The bartender poured shots and drinks for herself and her colleagues directly, then joined in by screeching F*ckin drink that sh*t! They continued their revelry throughout the bar area, shrieking profanity at each other from across the room, staying and leaving as though it was their personal playground and not a place of, you know, business. Worse yet the bartender continued to serve a third lone individual who was visibly intoxicated. This location was scheduled to be open for another 90 minutes, but all anyone seemed concerned with was either getting out or getting drunk, and I saw no one who could have been mistaken for a supervisor. Now I paid my dues in the service industry and spent a fair share of that time getting lit after a shift, but even then I knew how to act in public. There were no grown-ups in charge that night, grown-ups to explain to the kids how not to make complete jackasses of themselves, or to explain to the bartender how not to dress and act like a sad stripper. I feel bad for our server and I want my money back, or I want someone from Raku to acknowledge that this is the hip, young vibe theyre trying for so I can give them wide berth in the future.
Good food at the sushi bar. The sushi and the rolls are fresh and wonderful and prepared with skill in front of you if you sit at the sushi bar. Although the sushi bar seems to be tucked away and hidden by the front drink bar they still do a wonderful preparation and presentation. The only annoying thing about the sushi bar is it is next to the kitchen entrance and the manager and staff seem to loiter in the entrance so it appears they are watching you at the sushi bar so it makes it a bit uncomfortable.
Have eaten here twice with my wife. I have nothing negative to say about the food, and the staff are friendly. However, on both occasions my wife’s meal took ages to be delivered to the table. Her order wasn’t anything extraordinary that required special attention (or catching); just a selection from the menu.I’m assuming it’s just a coincidence this happened twice in a row – we shall see: We have two more Groupons to use.
SLOW SLOW SLOW. Very slow service. Food will take about an hr to arrive. No servers will come to you for until 20 mins after you’re seating. This place is heavily understaffed. They are trying to make too much money and does not want to hire staff. Food is good though. Just the service is terrible. Even the host acts like she’s too busy. I called twice to get a simple name change on a reservation and she didn’t want to do it because it was inconvenient for HER!This is the kind of service this restaurant gives. DONT go! And plus if you have plans after dinner, forget them. Dinner will be 2-3 hours because of delayed service. I am sure I am not the only one who got this kind of service.
Great place! Recommend!. My friend and I stumbled upon this place by accident. Other places were very busy and this one could seat us right away. What a NICE SURPRISE! The service was excellent, presentation was mind blowing. Food was fantastic and the prices were very fair. We loved the experience & ambiance. Servers & cooks were all nice & friendly. Definitely recommend! Great date night place!
The lunch I had was the worst ever!. I was born and raised in Japan and ate at different Japanese restaurants in many major cities the US (NYC, Boston, LA, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, etc.) and by far this was the worst one. When I try a new restaurant, I try lunch and this was my first and the last visit to this restaurant. Thank god I did not spend too much but for the quality of the food I got, I spent way too much.I had their sashimi lunch…which was just sashimi and miso soup. No rice or anything else so I ordered a bowl of white rice…and it came in a soup bowl and I had never tasted that bad, cheap quality rice in my life. Dry, super hard, old smell… I’m sure it was at least a day old rice, which was not even regular sticky rice. I don’t know what you need to do make it that bad.The sashimi was flavorless and my friend who ordered sushi lunch said her rice was very hard too. I tried one of her sushi rolls and it was not good. I had only sashimi lunch so cannot comment on their other dishes but the poor rice quality alone made me NOT want to try anything else.
