One of the more iconic little hidden gems of Stillwater, MN. You may end up waiting a few minutes in line, but WELL worth the wait for some of the creamiest, most delicious, great valued ice cream! I swear they have about 100 different complex flavors to choose from.
The Line is like a Mini-State Fair for people watching, Huge Portions and the kids who work there hustle, Needs to be open year roundIce Cream when it’s -20 Don’t be a Pussy
I don’t know how you can rate Nelson’s anything less than a 5. This business has been around forever and a day, and despite HUGE portion sizes and TINY prices, they succeed. There’s always a line in the summer, and deservedly so.Don’t go all crazy and think you can eat anything larger than a child’s size. Seriously, you can’t. Well, maybe you can, but you shouldn’t. A CHILD’S SIZE is at least pint of ice cream. How often did your parents let you eat a pint of ice cream when you were 6? (the photo I added is my then-5-year-old with a kid’s size)And the flavors – you can’t beat them. There are half a million (well, at least 30, I think) to choose from, and you can certainly get a scoop of this and a scoop of that. I prefer cups to cones, simply because of the size of the scoops. My favorite is white chocolate raspberry; kids love Superman and cotton candy.I grew up about 10 miles down the road and it’s been a family tradition my entire life. Now when I bring my family back to Minnesota to visit, a stop to Nelon’s is always a must. They’ve expanded to Highland Park by Cretin-Derham Hall, but the original in Stillwater will always be my favorite. katietalksabout.com
To hyped. I’ve lived next to nelsons since I was born. I always remembered it being busy but now its just completely over hyped. If you are willing to stand in line for 30+ minutes for a cup of ice cream then this is the place for you.
Any ice cream flavor is amazing there!! Friendly employees. But it would be nice to make a sign outside for the people to choose what they want in advance, so we don’t have to wait any longer then we have to.
Great way to end your day in Stillwater. There’s no better way to end (or start) your day in Stillwater than an ice cream from Nelson’s. They give you WAY more ice cream than they should!! No skimpy scoops here!
Defining what a premium ice cream shoppe should be. A tradition worth keeping!
