Disappointed.. I met a few friends for brunch at River Oasis Cafe on a Sunday. Three groups were seated after us. Despite being seated first – it took the waitress ~25 minutes to take our order. My friend (who is a strict vegetarian) ordered a vegetable omelet. When we finally received our food, my friend discovered considerable amounts of meat in her vegetable omelet. She explained the situation to the waitress and another omelet was ordered. When the second omelet arrived – it too had meat in it. My friend was unable to eat any of it. When the owner checked on us, my friend voiced her displeasure with the service. The owner proceeded to tell her that she was making a unreasonable demand for not wanting to pay for a meal she was unable to eat due to the establishment inability to keep meat out of her VEGETABLE omelet. He was extremely rude to all three of us and told us if we didn’t want to pay we could leave and never come back.I don’t understand how an establishment can be run by such a person. Being a vegetarian is not uncommon, and if you market a VEGETABLE omelet – there should not be considerable amounts of meat found in said omelet. I will not be returning to this establishment which is sad.
Great place to go on weekends. Great place for traditional breakfasts and a little extra. The eggs rancheros are the best. A great place to watch the locals. Busy on weekends. The owner plays tic tac toe with the kids when he’s there. And it’s ok to ask for extra whipped cream but be prepared.
Ambiance is Good….Food is Meh.. If your eating at the Oasis, your likely hungover, and the food they serve does a good job of sopping up some of that leftover booze from the night before, but beyond that, it is nothing special, though some would tell you otherwise.The coffee is restaurant grade, and so is the food, with the exception of maybe being more greasy, and the price is a tad higher than you would expect for the quality, which is o.k. because of the unique location. I opted for the eggs benedict with hash browns and a coffee. The English muffin bread was a little crusty, showing the beginning signs of being stale, and the benedict was good and filling, but the processed ingredients made themselves known by way of taste and texture as I munched, giving hints of caged egg and plastic, respectively. The hash brown’s were adequately crisped on both sides to my liking, (there is nothing worse than soft hash brown’s) and the coffee refills were attended to with regularity by the waitress, (though more restaurant grade coffee is not necessarily a good thing) and overall the experience was pleasant, though a little overpriced as the final bill was about $30 not including tip.So go for the experience, but not the food, or you may be disappointed.
Maddy. This is a rare find! I love a great greesy spoon and River Oasis Cafe does not disappoint. The homemade soups are excellant and the specials are surprising.
