Oh my God YUM! First time here and it was all delish! I had the empanadas and I tried all 3 flavors. Spicy was my fave. I got the plantains and they’re so yummy! Hubby had the 3 chicken ranch tacos and thought they were awesome!

Not your run of the mill KFC. It speaks volumes when a chicken place is packed and it’s neighbor, KFC, is as empty as a deserted town. The chicken at PC is not like an overly flour battered KFC chicken. It is light, crispy, and oh man the rice side that can be served with it makes the chicken all the more better. Whenever I’m near that place, I go no ifs ands or buts.

Nice Meal. We stopped by Pollo Campero for dinner tonight. The service was quick and friendly. Everything arrived at our table nice and hot. The Grilled Chicken was moist and spicy. The spices permeated the whole chicken leg and thigh. The Yuca Fries were hot and crisp with a starchy sweetness. The Plantains were hot starchy tender goodness. We also made tacos from the corn tortillas and Grilled Chicken. We added the cilantro, onion, salsa verde, and pico de gallo from the condiment bar. It was a good two meals in one. We will be back.

Fresh never frozen juicy chicken. It puts KFC to shame. You have to have real confidence in your product when you build your business right next door to your competition. It is so delicious I had to buy another order of chicken and I was full to an extent already. Yucca fries and the sauce that goes with them are yummy. This maybe another chain but it’s the first in MN and well worth your visit!! I know many chicken converts after they ate here. *****

I’ll Never Go Back To KFC!. I can’t put my finger on it… Pollo Campero is so much better than KFC (which is right next door, by the way). Terrific chicken, and even better sides (the rice is rather plain, but very good; the plantains and yucca fries are top notch; not a huge fan of the beans). I’d never have tried this place had I not seen a mention of it on this site. I’m certainly glad I tried it.

Waited 10 minutes for Cold Crap.. I went in here last week and ordered the cheapest combo-the one piece chicken with appetizer and fountain drink for around $5. I wasn’t that hungry and came to scout the menu mostly, but when I saw the plantain appetizer’s as an option with sour cream dipping sauce, I figured I would try the place. They looked really good and I don’t reckon I have had plantain ever, so I figured I would try it…eventually. As it happened, foody fate smirked at me and I had to wait 10 minutes to place my order as the plus sized people ahead of me had two $30+ orders,(does anyone really wonder why this obesity epidemic in this country is bad?) So I can’t fault the place for making me wait the 10 minutes in line, but a recognition that I existed wouldn’t have hurt either. Anyway, When I finally ordered my meal it only took a minute or two to come out, and this is the part where the place gets a BIG thumbs down. When my meal was set down, I couldn’t wait to try the plantain’s, and dug in immediately with a fervor. As soon as I touched them I knew I would be disappointed, as they were cool to the touch, and when I bit into them they were soggy and as warm as a basement toilet bowl. Instead of crisp and hot, or at least warm like I assume they ought to be, they were soggy, mushy, and cool; like a dog tumor’s consistency might be an hour after removal from the body. A true shame, because the soggy plantain’s ruined an otherwise good meal, as the chicken was really good, and when I added leftover pieces of chicken to the tortilla shell (that comes with the meal) along with cilantro and another salsa it was even better. However, I will not be going back to Pollo Campero as the cold plantain’s have left a traumatic dent in the memory of my sensitive taste bud’s, and they simply cannot risk being harmed again.
