Consistancy Counts. I’ve been eating at J’s since well before Katrina and it’s one of the most consistent places on the coast. Over the weekend we dined in at J’s and it was what we have come to expect, golden brown fried shrimp and oysters. I had the combo plater with shrimp an oysters. Instead of a side salad I got a cup of gumbo with my platter. The gumbo was the low light and it was average to above average for restaurant gumbo. Mrs. Foodblogger has turned me into a gumbo snob, so few measure up. But, the shrimp and oysters were very good and the platter was huge. Service was good even for a Friday night with a packed house and the food came out of the kitchen quickly. J’s once again delivered and gets a solid two thumbs up!
Not only a few letters short of a word. Stopped by for lunch on a Friday. The ambiance is nice, the dining area is bright and roomy, the booth I selected was comfortable and clean. No noticeable noise came from the kitchen area. I had a soft drink, shrimp poboy dressed, and onion rings for $12.97 with tax. The shrimp were small and not particularly distinctive in flavor. The poboy roll was rather large and of medium crustiness. They brushed some butter on the inside, but there was no visual or taste evidence that it had been toasted. So a mediocre offering. The onion rings were a flavorful, but I only got 7 rather modest rings on my plate. Service was quick and attentive. So every positive was offset by a negative, nothing really bad, just kinda in between, so this is a mild like.
