We were misled that we had reservations. When we got there before or reservation time we were told that they were fixing our table. We waited 20 minutes. .. numerous Parties came in and were seated. We waited another 20 minutes. … Then confronted the hostess … She said she wanted to give us the big table that had been empty the whole time but said the manager over ruled her. We asked the hostess… is there a way we can separate the group so that we could eat. She days sure. .. This is an hour after the reservation had been made and 45 minutes after arriving. We asked to speak with the manager. .. She said what’s the problem we don’t take reservations. If they don’t take reservations why we’re people that got there after us seated before us? Not hard to figure out is it. … sucky management….WILL NOT BE BACK. This isn’t the first time service was bad here. .. food is good…hopefully the owner watches these reviews as the staff he has in place obviously does not care.
Best BBQ on the coast and if you don’t believe that, it was voted on by the locals. I work in the tourist industry and when people come in from out of town and ask where would you eat I look them in the eye and say Slap Ya Momma’s you’ll want to write home about it. Everything tastes delicious and the staff is amazing! The owner is a stand up guy. You will not be disappointed! Pulled pork is my norm but you can’t go wrong with the brisket either. Try the Hungry Man(or Big Man can’t remember the name) that puts all the meats on a single sandwich if you really want to pleasure those taste buds. Great location, nothing like sitting on the back deck during Cruisin’. 5 out of 5, I would rate them higher if I could!
Finally got a chance to try this place. Always see it when I’m in town. Rustic atmosphere and you can smell the goodness when you get there. Was seated within about 10 minutes or so. Ordered fried pickles for an app which was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Sweet tea’s were damn good! Ordered the Ultimate sandwich that has the pulled pork and cole slaw as well as sweet potato fries for side. My counterpart ordered just the pulled pork sandwich and fried okra. Food was all excellent and cooked well, service was very good, and price wasn’t bad at all. Highly recommend for some BBQ!
I’m from the south, so I’ve been exposed to tons of BBQ in my life. I LOVE a good brisket, some juicy pulled pork/chicken, and a nice rack of ribs. I was not disappointed with SYM BBQ. The brisket sandwhich was so tender and fragrant that I didn’t really need much bbq sauce! The fried onions and the side of macncheese just made for a perfect lunch. Add a giant mason jar of cold beer, and life is complete! They had an abitas on draft that was really good! I recommend that with the brisket sandwhich or even their smoked wings. YUMMM.Note: this wasn’t THE best BBQ joint, but it is definitely made it to one of my top faves! Also, nicer pics to come…
I have eaten BBQ from Texas to Tennessee to North Carolina. Slap is not the best BBQ ever but there are somethings definitely worth trying. The decor – lots of painted doors for walls is very cool. The blues music playing fits the Mississippi heritage of the blues. The service was top notch. Our waiter was excellent. But the food is why we go to a place, we sampled all four meats. My favorites in order, fork tender brisket, nicely smoked sausage, good moist pulled chicken and pulled pork. The sauce is a good blend of sweet and smoke. But the biggest surprise and hit was the sour cream based potato salad – yumThe Boss Hog platters were $15.99 – good value.
Loved it here! We had amazing service, everyone was so friendly, and attentive! And the food… Yum, that’s what I call some good BBQ! Will definitely be back!
