The only place in the area I get my tamales! As a Mexican, I am quite picky regarding my tamales. I will not order them at tex mex restaurant and rarely find a vendor who seasons them right. Doris’ is the real deal. These tamales are perfection! Disclaimer: The meat is ground rather than shredded. This may sound off putting but I can assure you, you will enjoy every bite. First come, first serve and usually have a supply until late afternoon. Look for the red flashing light on the roof to see if they are available. TAKE OUT ONLY. CASH ONLY. A dozen is about $13–you can buy individual as well. Local family business w/ a great history.
The best Hot Tamales in Mississippi and if you out you can always stop in Doris Deno Hot Tamales and enjoy some of Mississippi finniest old fashion Hot Tamales and sit out side at the pick nick table and have A pop while you eat
Please open on Sunday and Monday. Tried this place for the first time recently and fell in love. It is a small place selling nothing but good tamales at a reasonable price. They have one picnic table and a coke machine outside if you choose to dine there. We did eat there and saw so many peoeple pull up, some with their own containers buying those tamales by the dozens. We loved them, they were fresh, hot and just the right amount of spice. Wish I lived closer. The only negative like the title states is you can’t get these fresh daily made gems on Sunday and Monday:(
A Treasure of the Mississippi Gulf Coast!. I LOVE this place! It’s not much on the outside, but the Tamales are AMAZING! All they serve are Tamales, nothing else! There is a Coke machine if you want a drink and you sit outside and eat at a picnic table. This place is a real gem! If your in the area you must try Doris’!
Long Time Customer – Over 50 Years. I have been a great fan of these Tamale’s since I used to buy them from Ms.Doris’s Father-in-Law, Mr. Mansicalco, from his pushcart on Howard Ave. in the 1960’s. He would push his cart all over downtown Biloxi selling the best Hot Tamales to be had in town. Then I found Ms. Doris’s stand in Diberville & have bought them from her for probably 15+ years till she died. I now get them from her son RJ (when I can catch him open, I drive down from Stone Co.). They are still the best that I have ever eaten, bar none & I have eaten Tamales in Southern California, Texas, Chicago. Never had any better anywhere.
Doris’ Hot Tamales is an institution…. I have been enjoying Doris’ Hot Tamales for the last 12 years and they are the best tamales I have ever eaten. The tiny tamale stand is in the owners yard and there is a picnic table close by if you want to eat your tamales on site. I believe most people take them elsewhere to enjoy these delicious, juicy morsels. They are authentic, wrapped in corn husks and then in newspaper, then slid into a brown paper bag. They are juicy and delicious. Hurricane Katrina was cruel to this section of D’Iberville and it was good to see Doris’ open again. Doris’ son now runs the tamale stand but he uses his Mama’s recipe because the tamales haven’t changed a bit. When the red light outside the stand is on, stop and get some of the best tamales anywhere!
I have been enjoying the Tamales at Doris’ for years. I have not had any in a while so I decided to get some last week. They are closed on Sunday and Monday so you will have to get them Tuesday through Saturday. They used to be open a lot later but now they normally sell out around 2:30 pm so you may want to call ahead and make sure they have Tamales left before you make the drive. They have been in business over 30 years from what I read but I have only been enjoying them the last 10 years or so but I am hooked. I believe Tamales are all they sell. If you are in the mood for some tasty homemade Tamales, this is your place. They are very moist and have just the right amount of spice to keep me coming back over and over again. I like to try Tamales at any restaurant that sells them because I love them and hands down these are the best that I have ever tasted. I took a few pictures of the dozen I purchase last week so you can get an idea of what they look like. I believe a dozen cost about $10.69 +/-. Enjoy
