Different taste and approach-It is either the best or the worst you have ever had. To me, it is the best. Unlike other cookie-cutter type Mexican Restaurants, Mexican Kitchen spices UP their meat in tacos and enchiladas. They dare to serve crispy tortillas/taco shells broken in half instead of tostito-type chips that any other place would buy from a food wholesaler. I have never had a shell that wasn’t crisp and fresh and I have been there a thousand times over a 35 year period. Their sauce (instead of salsa) has a smooth, gravy-like or marinara-like consistency and is always spicy, zesty and satisfying. Not chunky and not just tomato juice or tomato puree like other places. My family and I think that sauce is the BOMB and we serve it at parties and when tailgating in the GROVE at Ole Miss. You love it or hate it but we love it. We always get the medium or large combo plate and have always considered beans and rice a notch above all other places. Tacos and enchiladas are more tasty than we have found anywhere. Never tried the fajitas because the basic stuff is so good. Your taste may vary…and your expectations will affect your opinion. Food is more of a Guatemalan style than Mexican. Don’t confuse simple and inexpensive with cheap or cut-rate. Not like any other place I have found. If you want chunky salsa and tostitos, this in NOT your place. We had my daughter’s Wedding Rehearsal Dinner there. 5 stars for me…but other people with good taste may not like it.
Really?. First thing? Taco shells with hot sauce pretty much. Must be a quick and easy recipe. Salsa is an actual mexican dish and they don’t serve it. I had 2 tacos and they mixed refried bean paste. in the taco meat. Really? Iam sorry but authentic mexican food is about freshness. Mexicans spend hours just on enchilada sauce. This food is served out of a can obviously. Over 5 dollars for two tacos that the waiter seemed like she knew i wouldn’t like. Oh yeah they put half sliced tomato slice instead of diced tomatos. The tacos from taco bell are actually twice as good and half as cheap. Honestly i think any of the good reviews are from people they know. Every one talks about it being authentic. Anybody that knows real mexican food knows that it taste amazing because it is time consuming and the taste always shows. This place should be called lazy kitchen because the quality shows.
Unique. Been chasing location to location since the 70s when a bowl of sliced jalapeos came with the chips and salsa. Do I think it is as good as it once was, no, but it is still better than the standard plop and squeeze, fake cheese sauce alternatives. Medium plate (what I always get): sometimes everything seems fresh and differentiated, and other times to have same taste just different shapes and the chips a tad stale. The sliced raw white onions atop the enchiladas is huge plus to the dish, and the salsa works perfectly on the rice/tamale as well as alone with chips and will definitely make your scalp sweat. Still my go to mex. for the times they nail it and out of nostalgia, but would like them to tighten up a bit.
Taste and Satisfaction. Well for me I have never eaten at Mexican Kitchen until I went there a few weeks ago. Needless to say this food is the best I have ever tasted. To me the waitress was nice, then food was the best and the prices are pricey but I still love the food. I will come here all the time for now on and I just love their Anchalotas! This is the best place that you can ever eat Mexican food at. I recommend that you eat there. You will absolutely love it, cause I know I did! I give it a thumbs up!!
Best Mexican food. It is hard to believe the bad reviews of a restaurant that has been in business since the early 70’s. This is authentic Mexican food and I have enjoyed eating here for over 20 years. Personally, I think it is the best Mexican food I have ever tasted. There are many good Mexican restaurants. But with the exception of Mexican Kitchen and Mama Alma’s, the food from every one of them could come from the same supplier. And that is what most people have come to know as Mexican food. They don’t understand REAL Mexican food. Compadres Taqueria & Grill does have a somewhat unique flavor, too. Mexican is my favorite food and I do try different restaurants at times, and wouldn’t turn down the food from any of them. But when I have my choice of places, it is Mexican Kitchen. As for the salsa/sauce, it is very unique. Most of the restaurants actually have salsa; tomatoes, peppers, seasoning and sometimes a little cilantro pureed. Most of the time it is good. But the Mexican Kitchen sauce is something totally different and you either like it, or not. I LOVE it. As for the service, it can be slow at times. And there is no excuse for asking a person to leave because they brought their child’s food. If they couldn’t understand the allergy problem, there is just no excuse for that. And I will mention it the next time I am there. I know the owner well and I will tell him that this is disappointing to read about. I am sorry you had that experience.
Oh my goodness. Is this even possible? How can you screw up Mexican food this bad. I wish I could attach a photo. 5 dollars for a taco and enchilada with NO beans or rice. Our chips are taco shells. The salsa tastes like spaghetti sauce and hot sauce. By far the worst place I have been too if we were not on a schedule driving 11 hours to the beach I would have walked out. WARNING STAY AWAY
Worst food not sure how they stay in business. Never had Mexican made with cheddar cheese.
