The Half Shell is the best seafood restaurant in Hattiesburg! We have tried a variety of different appetizers and meals, all divine! Our favorites are the stuffed mushrooms, combination oyster platter, royal red shrimp, and barbeque shrimp. The setting is upscale but also has a bar. It would be perfect for a romantic date night. The staff has always been friendly and met all of our needs as well.
LOVE this place! Raw oysters are always a classic, but their variety and different takes on flavors while incorporating oysters is great. The bananas foster cheesecake is to die for as well.
Grilled grouper was okay but not great. Good house salad.House Merlot was terrible. Fast friendly service and will give them another shot. Good atmosphere.I had a fantastic lunch today. I started with the gumbo which was very good. I ordered the lunch portion of grilled grouper . The fish was one of the best I have ever had, it was cooked to perfection and a light seasoning. The dipping sauce also added to the meal. I can’t wait to go back.
Dont bother making reservations. Myself and 3 more of my coworkers went on night. Waited a long time to get seated. Decided to go back and make reservations first. This did not help. We still waited an hour and i called in an order. Gave it hour. Went to get it. Still not ready. Waited another 30-45 min. Good food. Not good service..
Love!. Best oysters I’ve ever had, charbroiled and raw. I love the Cocoa Runner drink… Everything I’ve tried here is amazing.
Shrimp are a rip-off. Had Shrimp and Grits here before. Was good. Returned. Ordered same dish. This time, the shrimp were the size of bay shrimp in a can. Asked the manager on duty about this and he said their menu had changed…..but he stated very firmly that I was being served Gulf Shrimp. I pushed the plate away. Waitress tipped me off that you have to now order an item that really does use Gulf Shrimp and get grits as a side. Downhill. I highly suspect this is one of those restaurants that you might, or you might not. They are near Lake Serene, which used to be called Lake Shady.
Best seafood in town. If you want great seafood, this is the place to get it. We went on a Saturday night and the place was packed. The service was top notch and the food was the best. They have any kind of seafood you want and I promise it is the best. You must try the sampler of oysters and the royal reds!! If you don’t like seafood, the steaks are a must try!! Another thing that was great about this place was that they have managers checking on every guest! You really don’t see that in Hattiesburg. We can’t wait to go back!!!
