The food was generally pretty good, but under seasoned. Prices were a little high, but you do get a lot of food. The crab on crab was wonderful after salted at the table. As for the grits, someone needs to teach chef how we do grits in the south. You’ll get better at a gas station. The sweet tea was proper. Not too sweet. If the grits were better, I’d give it a 4.
My husband and I decided to go here on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. We asked his parents if they would like to go with us because we had heard rave reviews. So, they did! When we arrived around 4:45 pm, the lady at the front asked if we had a reservation, and my husband said no. (He called a couple of days earlier and was told we didn’t need one.) She said let me see if we have any tables available. Apparently it was Prom night and they were going to be busy, but the dining room only had 2 tables occupied at the time of our arrival. She led us to a small 4-person table. Our waitress, Becca, was beyond amazing. She was knowledgeable of the menu and even threw in some laughs when my father in law asked about the recipe of the lentil soup. They bring complimentary hummus with Pita. The pita was VERY tough, but the hummus was good-more lemony than I’m used to. I wish it was warm, but that’s just my opinion. We received our menus AFTER she told us the specials. Not sure why they do that. When we looked at the menu, my heart stopped for about 5 minutes. The prices were much higher than I would imagine for a restaurant that doesn’t have super fancy dcor. I ordered the Seafood and Grits (asiago grits with 2 small (about 2-3 inch) crab cakes, 4 asparagus spears, and some fried spinach). My entre came with salad and soup as well. It was $32.00–normally I would pick something cheap, but the cheapest thing on the menu was a $17 quesadilla, and I figured if I’m going to spend this much money, I might as well get something good. My husband got the Stuffed Snapper. It was a large piece of snapper stuffed with a crab cake and came with the daily vegetables and a side of cheese grits. He also received salad and soup. I don’t remember exactly, but his dish was around $45.00. After dinner, we ordered a piece of Sweet Potato Cheesecake for $8.00. He had Coke to drink; I had water. All of the food was divine, but we were not expecting our dinner with tip to cost $100+. We might go back but not until we’re mentally prepared to spend $100 on a meal (this was our first time to EVER comeclose tothat.) I give the food and the portion size a 5.0, but the cost is way too high-especially since we live on the coast and have easy access to fresh seafood. *Remember those reserved tables? Well, when we left, only 2 had been filled.
I always have great experience here. Delicious fare, lovely atmosphere & fantastic service. Appropriate prices and very accomodating w/ BYOB. Also have a beautiful Sunday brunch. Definitely a must try.
I’ve only been to Phoenicia for brunch, but I’ve been impressed so far. They make a super rich and flavorful eggs sardou It could use some capers to cut the heaviness but really is fantastic as is! Their Asiago grits are amazing I would love to try their dinner menu. Service is great.
Recently took in a dinner with a large group at Phoenicia. The atmosphere is nice and we had heard so many good things about it. Over all it was a positive experience. We sampled several appetizers including fried and sauteed crab claws and some fried crawfish tails. They were all fine, nothing special but acceptable.I ordered a nightly special of Surf and Turf, a 12 oz Sirloin and Fried Shrimp, with a side of grilled asparagus and a fresh spinach salad. The Spinach Salad was good with a nice bacon vinaigrette dressing. The steak was ok, I ordered it medium and it was grilled fine, it was just not the quality of cut I was expecting at the price point. The shrimp were fine seasoned well and fried golden brown. The main problem we had was service. Our waiter was not very attentive. In fact after ordering the appetizers and bringing out water he never took drink orders from anyone at the table leaving us to have to ask his assistant for drinks.I wanted to like this establishment and in all it’s ok, but I am not sure if we would return for the price point.
I’ve loved the Phoenicia since Sam first opened. I have never had a bad meal here. However!!! We didn’t get to enjoy it tonight. The host made us wait for 10 minutes for a table when there were 3 tables clean and open. It was insulting. And then he didn’t inform the waiter apparently since he came to the table about 5 minutes after we had been there. He wasn’t too happy either. Some folks just don’t need to be in the restaurant biz!!
Needs ventilation. This is the 2nd time eating at Phoenicia and I have to say the food is the best! The meal was excellent both times however, both times the place was full of smoke from the steaks grilling in the kitchen. Also, we went on Valentines day the 2nd time and had reservations but we were VERY disappointed to have a one page limited menu with what seemed to be their highest priced menu items. I wish I was told this when making reservations. Their regular menu is very long with many many different dishes that we were excited to try on our 2nd visit. But, the meal was still very good and we will be back
