I’ve visited this establishment a few time throughout my travels in DeSoto County. Each time I was more disappointed than the last. The wait staff seems the be as happy about their job as the prisoners are happy to be prisoner in Shawshank Prison. Not to mention my waiter only came to bring the drinks once and then again with our food. My friends and I always had to ask for refills and more chips only when we could catch a waiter who was walking by and not standing around at the cash register giving customers angry looks. I mean how many oscars do I have to win for a waiter to take care of me as a customer. I’m usually not so critical but I can only keep my voice calm and smooth for so long.
I’ve been a regular at this particular El Mezcal for two years. I have never had problems with the service or the food. The service has always been friendly and efficient. The delicious food has always been served hot. I just had an excellent lunch there yesterday. The manager has always been personable and he truly cares about his customers. I have a very hard time believing the most recent negative review from January. Talk about extreme exaggeration. I will continue to eat at this El Mezcal. It’s been my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Memphis area since May of 2012.11 May, 2012THE BEST Mexican restaurant in the Memphis area!!. I’ve been to other El Mezcal locations in the past, but I keep coming back to this one. I really enjoyed the food here during my first visit a couple weeks ago. I was seated promptly by the friendly, personable manager. I ordered the Chimichanga Deluxe. Two deep fried chicken burritos topped with mild white cheese sauce served with Mexican rice and a sour cream salad. My order arrived in 5 minutes, piping hot. The chimichangas were HUGE and so incredibly delicious. Overstuffed with juicy tender flavorful marinated white meat chicken. Hands down the best chimichangas I’ve ever eaten. The rice was flavorful and not overcooked. I’ve eaten at this particular El Mezcal four times in the past two weeks. I order the Chimichangas Deluxe every time. I think their food is much better than their competitors in Olive Branch and in the Memphis area. My mother joined me for lunch here one day. She really enjoyed the chicken enchiladas. Every time I go has been between lunch and dinner. I don’t care for loud busy restaurants. Another nice thing about this El Mezcal is that they don’t blast the music played over the speakers. I like that I can hear myself think along with the person(s) I’m with, while we enjoy our delicious meals. This place is worth the drive from Midtown. Prompt friendly service, excellent food, huge portions and reasonable prices. Not only the best Mexican restaurant in the Memphis area, in my opinion, but the best El Mezcal around.

Unimpressed. Im sitting at the table writing this review STILL waiting on our order. Ordered the big bowl of cheese, came out cold. The waiter came, I asked if it was supposed to be cold and apologized and took it to heat it up. Came back…i kid you not, maybe 5 degrees warmer. Unimpresded and with the MANY choices for mexican EL Mezcal is off my El List.
Mothers Day lunch. Just ate lunch there for Mothers Day. Had the Enchiladas Verdes. Food was very good. Great friendly service. I just wish I had not seen the manager/owner (?) take 2 baskets of leftover chips off a recently vacated long table of diners and carry them back to the kitchen. The waitress was cleaning the tables and emptying most of them in the garbage, but these two baskets were almost full and he was obviously taking them back to reuse. Really??? I don’t think I will be going back here.
