We went here because we heard so many good things. I had a steak that was perfectly cooked sitting on a bed of pured carrots and nestled among crunchy fingerling potatoes. It was wonderful. My husband had an ahi tuna special. He forgot to tell them to cook the tuna medium rare. He thought there were too many flavors going on. He was not as happy as I was. We also enjoyed the Bibb lettuce salad and the special crab cakes.
Have been here for lunch and dinner in the past couple of months. I loved my oyster salad for lunch! For dinner we always order a little of this and a little of that and I’ve not had anything bad here. Menu changes by the season but the shrimp and grits are good and usually always available.

Great Food. First time at City Grocery, and we were not disappointed. The staff was fantastic in keeping everyone served, and making sure that we were satisfied. We will be back.
I just cannot recommend this place…service stinks!. The food (entrees) are fine. I had lamb chops and tasted someones salmon it was good. Not great, just good.Service was a bit of a nightmare: the bartender could NOT make a decent Manhattan to save her life! I finally got up, walked over and tried to explain it. To no avail. Then, the waiter poured my espresso on me. And, spilled water and wine all over the people next to me.No one word from management! Nothing! Desserts were tasty.
A very fancy restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. The food seemed to be a spin on the cuisine of the Underground Railroad. The $6 side of fries were very similar to that of something out of a Wendy’s dumpster. The $10 hamburger bun was thoroughly burnt, yet soggy enough to emulate the meal of a homeless man on a rainy day. All in all, if horrible food for a horrendous price is what you’re looking for, City Grocery is the way to go!
What’s happened?. When I was living in Oxford this was THE place. Can’t wait to return.
