Nobody does sushi like Tommy! We have been going to Osaka for as long as we can remember, so it’s really nice to have the sister restaurant so close to home. Asahi is very classy inside. The menu is the same as Osaka. The noticeable difference is that the hibachi is not cooked In Front of you. We always get sushi though and trust me when I say that you will not find any better anywhere around. It’s always fresh and delicious. Today we just had a light lunch, so we split the Rock and roll and the New Orleans roll. Both were flavorable and rolled to perfection. The only problem is that it’s all so good that we often find ourselves ordering the same thing. We need to branch out and try something different.
It seems Japanese joints are popping up all over the Metro, and it’s getting heavy in Rankin County. When Asahi opened it’s doors after renovating the former No. 1 Chinese Buffet, admittedly I was skeptical. As a curious foodie, I ventured in with the famz and ordered the old faithfuls from the app menu, the sushi list and the hibachi. The apps were on point, seaweed salad and clear soup; all of the sushi was freshly made, with fresh ingredients, and very decent wasabi on the side. The hibachi was, well, typcial hibachi (hard to mess that up.) All of our plates were empty at the end of dinner, as an indication that our food was delicious. The prices were more than reasonable, almost too low, if you catch my drift … kind of like we hope we can keep this a secret before demand kicks in. 😉 The servers and Itamae were very friendly and accommodating. Our food was to the table within five minutes! So glad we stopped in.
My husband and I really like this place! I’m pretty sure it is the same owners as Osaka near the movie theater on Lakeland. The food is always good, and they have nightly specials during the week. We’ve never had to wait very long for our food either. It is literally 5 minutes from my house, so that makes it even better! If you live out by the Reservoir, it’s convenient and yummy!
This is my first time to eat here and I really liked it. You better be hungry if you order a dinner. Good sushi, well prepared fried rice, love the salad and soup too. I will be back here!!!
Good service, good food… but nothing special. Nothing here stands out to make me return. With all the competition in the Asian food market, you’ve really got to go above and beyond to stand out from the crowd. Not bad… just average.
Asahi offers a vast array of cooked & uncooked rolls. The three rolls I tried were constructed very well and the sauces complimented the fresh ingredients used. The plate presentation was indeed eye catching. With the constant beverage refills and attentive service, I’m positive this first visit will lead to a second and more.
We eat here a lot for lunch at work. The place has a clean, modern look, friendly staff, and IMO, the best sushi in the area. The Hibachi is on the same level as the sushi. And there are other items on the menu as well. A wonderful dining experience!
