The Anthony is a very pretty restaurant. We just had drinks there and an appetizer. The bar tender Tamika made me a Lemon Drop Martini and it was very good. We ordered the Spicy Shrimp appetizer. It took an unusually long time to get it. She said the paper was out in the printer in the kitchen and the cooks didn’t see it. Anyway, no biggie. It was good.. similar to bang bang shrimp at bonefish but there wasn’t much sauce. Some of the fried shrimp had no sauce but we just ordered extra sauce. They were good. Bar is beautiful and the beer was cold. Any new restaurant has kinks to work out. The menu looks delicious. They serve really good pork rinds. The view from the bar is really beautiful overlooking the golf course.
The Anthony–or Anthony’s as it inevitably is to be called–is located in, but isn’t connected with, the Vicksburg Country Club, just south of I-20, a few feet past the Frontage Road on Indiana Avenue. Get in the right lane. Enter through the Country Club’s main door. It’s easier than it sounds. The dining room is huge. It’s been refurbished entirely and pleasingly. Floor to ceiling windows look out over a well-maintained golf course–come rain or come shine, a most attractive view. The Anthony is new, so I’ve only eaten there a few times; but already I’m prepared to say it’s among the best two or three top, maybe THE top restaurant in Vicksburg, and that’s saying a lot, because Vicksburg has always offered one or two fine dining experiences, and now it has a few world-class restaurants, none better than the Anthony. At brunch I had the Cajun Eggs Benedict, which were superb. My partners at brunch enjoyed the shrimp po’ boy and a fish, I seem to recall it was the salmon. Both of them raved. Not a crumb left! The sauce on the po’ boy was fiery, so if you don’t like highly spiced food, ask for a different sauce, say the Cajun Hollandaise, or order something else. One night at dinner my dining partners ordered the grillades and grits and the chicken alfredo, highly praised, and I had the delectable Asian pork chop. On another visit I had the grillades and grits, which were quite different from the grillades I have been accustomed to in New Orleans, but the sauce was spot-on and the beef was fork-tender and scrumptious. My pork chop at the earlier meal was memorable. I was sorely tempted to order it on my second visit, but the menu offers so many temptations I decided to explore; so now I have two splendid entrees literally under my belt, and suppose I’ll explore the menu further on later visits. The filet, blackened redfish, and the etouffee have all been praised to the skies. The bar drinks, wines, and iced tea were all as expected–no nasty surprises, nothing watered down or skimpy. Glenlivet is Glenlivet; Dickel is Dickel, right?! People enjoyed their wine choices–some were house wines–no complaints on that score, or on anything else for that matter. The only thing I can’t vouch for yet are the desserts, and that is because we didn’t allow room–servings are generous–but we have promised ourselves to return for just desserts and some of that excellent coffee or cognacs soon. In Vicksburg there are other restaurants, even hamburger joints, people have rightly given high marks to, but with several notable exceptions, these do not offer fine dining. If you’re in the mood for chili cheese french fries and a pitcher of brewsky and a raucous crowd, by all means go to one of those; but if you crave excellent cuisine and a pleasant atmosphere, you can’t do better than the Anthony. I recommend it with no reservations whatsoever.
The Anthony is a new restaurant in the Vicksburg Country Club and is open to the public. Went to The Anthony for lunch on Friday and was so impressed also went to dinner on Saturday. It has a southern/cajun vibe about the menu but for Vicksburg its fine dining.Tried to go for lunch there a week ago and could not find a place to park. Went back this past Friday and it was so busy we had to sit at the bar. Thankfully the service was great, even at the bar. I had the blue plate of fried catfish and 2 sides (peas and corn). Everything was exceptionally seasoned no bland vegetables here. The portion was very reasonable for lunch and the price. My friend had the Nashville Hot Chicken with fries. It was hot (in a good way) but could have used more slaw.Saturday for dinner the free snack is BBQ pork skins. Strange but tasty. We started with the spinach dip and crostinis. It came out quick and tasted good, but different than spinach dip found elsewhere. For the entre I had the grilled salmon with grits and broccolini. It was a smaller portion than I was expecting, but salmon usually is a small piece. I just wish there were more vegetables. My friend had the BBQ shrimp and grits. It wasnt very BBQ, but it was delicious. It appeared to be a generous portion. And as with lunch, the service was excellent. There are several other interesting sounding items on the menu, so I will definitely be back. The desserts also sound appealing. I like the seasoning of the items I tried. Some might find them a little salty or even spicy. Bland isnt a word you will use for their food. However, I dont think they improved the dcor from the previous restaurant. The floors are simply concrete. They erected new walls and everything is basic white. The tables are fine but the chairs are unpadded metal. So it might be at the country club, but The Anthony doesnt have the appearance of fine dining. If they keep filling the place up with customers, maybe the dcor will improve.
