Best Sushi In Midwest. I have eaten at some of the finest sushi restaurants in the country. Many on the west coast, which boast higher than deserved ratings.Tonight I had the pleasure of dining (alone-very rare) at an out of the way, Japanese Restaurant Called Sakura. In of all places, St. Joseph, MO! I love St Jo, so no wise cracks! I love St. Jo so much I am investing my grandchildren’s life savings here.It was a long day and I was late, within an hour of closing (10 PM). I knew I needed to find a sushi restaurant, as I have been craving it for weeks. Since I am in Missouri on and investment tour I figured finding a decent Sushi Restaurant in the Midwest was as like finding water in the Sahara. Was I ever wrong! What I found must be the best kept secret since the discovery of penicillin! The service was impeccable, the hostess and waitress, both absolutely beautiful young women, were the epitome of professional (even at the late hour) and the surroundings were as perfect as a restaurant can get; Comfortable, quiet and soothing.I ordered Sashimi and a roll, which was recommended by my server (one of the most beautiful young women I have ever had the pleasure to meet) and both the tuna and roll were perfect! I ordered the cold Saki (since it has been in the high 80’s and 90’s it’s very refreshing!) and it pared perfectly with the dishes.if you have not tried this place (on Belt Hwy, just north of Frederick Blvd) you are missing out. If you have never tried Sushi, sashimi or any of the dozens of rolls, you are missing out. You do not have to be a sushi lover to enjoy a wonderful meal at Sakura!Go out and get some!

It’s good or great, depending…. I’ve been to Sakura immediately after it opened. Third time now and we found the meal to 4 adults, a teen and 2 polite children very bizarre in that the salads arrived with soup, and long after they were served, another salad and soup appeared that was forgotten previously, then some of the sushi, then the rest of the sushi, then the bento box dinners. It took three times as long as usual, but the sushi was very good, very nice plating. You can go to KC to get better, but for local, this is the best we have, if you consider HyVee real sushi.

This place is my new favorite restaurant in St. Joe. The food is delicious and it’s very entertaining to watch them make it! Great food and great service!

Sakura Japanese Cuisine opened on 5/26/11. The reviews below are not correct, b/c Sakura Japanese Cuisine is just opened on 5/26/11. It used to be Fuji’s Steak House and they was closed on January. But, Sakura Japanese cuisine opens up now. I just went to Sakura few days ago and they told me that the owner has been changed and they have changed a lot in the restaurant. I love their menu and they got more choices for sushi and hibachi now. They got special prices for 3 roll combo sushi and their sushi are fresh. Their services and foods are much better than old Fuji’s . So I would highly recommand this place to anyone who loves sushi and hibachi.
