Great sea bass. Went to Balaban’s for dinner. We had sea bass and my wife’s favorite Paella. Food and service were excellent. However if you order a beet salad or heart of palm salad you would expect more beet and palm than lettuce, however, the salads were very tasty. Ordering a mixed drink if you don’t drink wine is very expensive., 50% over a competitive restaurant. Looks like they are trying to drive you to their wine. Don’t think this is a good policy.
LOVED IT. My husband and I visited Balaban’s for lunch this past weekend. We were looking for a light lunch at a non-chain restaurant in the area. We had a wonderful experience. Relaxing atmosphere, FABULOUS food, warm and attentive service…couldn’t have asked for more. Anxious to come back for dinner. We are excited to have found a great restaurant so close to home!
It’s on a regular rotation.. I have been to Balaban’s several times, and keep going back. It is the very best upscale dining, without the upscale price, or attitude. I find the staff a delight, the menu a great mix of old, new and seasonal specialties. I have taken many clients, friends and relatives and have never had a bad meal. There is something for every taste, it’s intimate, inviting and well worth your money.
One of our favorites. My wife and I frequently have dinner and lunch at Balabans. It is always great. The food is very good and the staff is always very attentive. I particularly enjoyed the Beef Wellington and the Paella. The selection of wine is extensive and reasonably priced. Weve also attended a number of their wine dinners. The food and wine parings are always amazing.
Leaves a lot to be desired. Expensive for very small portions small portions. Service was horrible ( and we were the only table) good wine choices. So many other good food choices in St. Louis. Will not go back.
Twice. I have been to Balaban’s twice in the last month. Service was terrible but the food was excellent. The waiter was an obnoxious jerk. I emailed owner who apologized. Had event at original Balaban’s twenty years ago and was pleased. I will not go back to this restaurant. I want to be treated with respect and dignity when I am spending my money on eating out.
Food Court. My husband and I went to Balaban’s on a Friday evening around 530.The food was great however a large group was placed next to us (15+).They were loud and obnoxious and the group kept wanting more tables pushed together to accommodate their growing size.We have eaten at Balaban’s before but at the bar.If we return we will not sit at a table but will have a tapas at the bar with a glass of wine.We felt like we were at the food court but the price was $$$.We couldn’t wait to get out of there!
