Why didn’t I know about this place!. A friend told me that Filippo’s is all about sauces. Bravo, great minds think alike. My wife had double lamb chops with a caper sauce that bordered on a Greek influence. Wasn’t Sicily part of Greece hundreds of years ago? I had a veal dish that was to die for. Since I quit drinking desserts have taken on a whole new meaning so the lemon cake was a must. We usually share one but after eating this heavenly gift we went for two. Entree’s are on the high end but offer great value. You can get in and out much cheaper if you stick to salads and pasta, the latter offering up some great tastes.
Kay and family. We went to Filippos for Father’s Day with our son and daughter in law. Food was fabulous and the servos was outstanding. The chef came by the table several times and had a great personality. We felt like one of the family joking and laughing just like you would do at any Italian household. Would recommend it highly.
My husband and I loved it! The food was fabulous from the Spicy Meatball appetizer to the wonderful Tiramisu and freshly brewed coffee. My husband had the Creme de Mare Linguini and commented that the flavor was really good and not over-powered by garlic. My Chicken Limone was delicious and the roasted vegetables and salad were so fresh-tasting. The Spicy Meatballs are a must!! The only suggestion I would make is to bring the price point down a little. But then we might not be able to get in right away on a Friday night.
Very Poor Service. I understand you go to a restaurant for the food, but when the service is so bad the food becomes secondary. Had dinner 2/14/12 at 5:00 PM and the place was less than 1/4 full. We were given bread plates with oil and vinegar promptly but no bread after having asked twice. It took 20 minutes to get a second drink after I ordered it as the bartender just stood around. Almost all the servers are very young and would be better suited to work at Applebys and should not be in a nicer restaurant.
Flip Flopping on Filippo’s Rating!. Dinner Jan 25 In a party of 12, so I am trying to give this place the biggest benefit of a doubt that I can. But, there wasnt more than 10 other people there that night. So, it wasn’t like they were jammed full of patrons. I gotta be honest, this place toggled between great things and really not so great things, so here it is: SO WHAT WAS GREAT? Appetizers! The Shrimp was beautiful! Large Butterflied Shrimp cooked perfectly – both in marinara sauce and in scampi sauce! The Spicy meatballs were also very good and yes, they were spicy, but bursting with flavor. Main Entres! EVERYONE thought there main courses were outstanding. Very large and very, very tasty! Side Dish of Spaghetti! Could possibly be some of the best Bolangese Sauce I had ever had! The Chef! He visited our table twice and was very friendly and welcoming! SO WHAT WAS NOT-SO-GREAT? The service was just plain terrible. EVERY person had something incorrect, be it a side a salad, side dish on main entre, they never asked anyone how they wanted their steak cooked, half the table didnt have bread plates. The Ceaser Salad was nothing special. Unfortunately, the other food stood out so much, it made the Ceaser Salad seem pedestrian. The croutons were out of a box and it was topped with what seemed to be Kraft grated (powdery) cheese. For $7 Would expect something more then a Denny’s caesar salad. The Cannoli was just not good at all. Pastry shell was too thick and hard. The creamy filling was very bland and flavorless. And the carmel sauce drizzled over it just didnt go with the Cannoli at all.
Great food. A friend and I had dinner here last weekend and we both ordered from the specials menu. I had the salmon with champagne cream sauce with vegetables and she had the eggplant lasagne. Both dinners were very nice size portions and were very good and the salads were great too. The owner came by our table 3 times and stopped to speak to us for a while and was very welcoming. The only hiccups were that the bar was out of Belvedere vodka and when my friend ordered a glass of wine, she was told they were out of that particular wine but there was a comparable wine she could buy but only by the bottle, so she changed her wine order. Also, after our food arrived, the waiter didn’t check on us again for over 20 minutes and we were both out of water. Other than that, it was a nice experience and we will be back.
A Real Treat. Joe and family have done it up right. Had a terrific dinner there a week after opening and it was top notch. Great addition to Chesterfield.
