Where’s the Smoke?. I tried Lutz’s in Columbia for the second time. What immediately came to mind was the lack of hardwood smoke smell. I had the burnt end brisket sandwich which had quite a bit of fat in it. My greatest complaint was the lack of any smoke taste to the brisket. It was moist, but there just wasn’t any flavor to speak of. It just tasted like it had been baked instead of smoked over hickory logs. On my previous visit, I had the pulled pork and immediately noticed the lack of smoke taste. Whoever said this bettered KC barbecue has not eaten at Jack Stack, Oklahoma Joe’s, Gates, or Arthur Bryant’s (and a host of smaller ones). It wasn’t bad; it just wasn’t real good.

Helped make our wedding reception extra special. We had Lutz’s bbq for our wedding reception! We have had them many times in their restaurant and decided we wanted them to cater our wedding. We made the right choice! They have the best prices in town for catered bbq and everything they have is delicious! We had multiple guests rave about the food and my husband thanked Lutz’s in his wedding speech, since we were both so happy about how things turned out :). The employees who set everything up were wonderful; they asked us appropriate questions to make sure they were setting things up the way we wanted and were completely professional. Everyone loved the apple cobbler and I’m so thankful that all the leftover food was wrapped up and put into our car to take home (the car has never smelled so good!). Even my friends who are normally ‘pork only’ bbq fans, went crazy over the burnt ends and brisket. The pulled pork was incredible and everyone loved the sides, especially the potato casserole. We have been recommending Lutz’s to everyone, even before the wedding, for how they were so flexible, available for questions, and helped us figure out what we needed. I know we will have Lutz’s at the top of our list for future events. Lutz’s made our wedding day unforgettable.

So good. Went here with my uncle while visiting in Columbia. What an awesome place. Surprised by the speed of service and FANTASTIC quality of food. I had an Arnold Palmer to drink and a burnt end with their famous house chips and slaw. A really, really tasty meal. You probably can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. I you like bbq, you’ll love this place. Also, my dog enjoyed his pet treat I brought him back from Lutz’s. 🙂 Definitely recommend and will be going back!!

AWESOME. This place is KILLER! Why there isn’t always a line out the door boggles my mind. The cuts of meat, the sauces, and the sides are all delicious, affordable and generously portioned. I love the Pulled Pork and some of my family members love the Burnt Brisket Ends. The homemade chips are challenging to eat if you are practicing portion control (PS that’s a joke). They are delicious. The staff is always friendly and I always see someone working hard to keep the place clean. I recommend it to everyone I talk to about BBQ (which seems to be a big thing in Missouri). I can’t wait to return…maybe for lunch today.

The best BBQ restaurant in Columbia bar none.Mr. Lutz’s knows what he’s doing. Please don’t compare this mans food with Shot gun Pete’s anything every time I’ve gone there its been d grade BBQ and d grade service! Lutz’s does need work on the sides dishes but,as for the meats best in Columbia ! With all that said Columbia is a hour and 45 min from the BBQ Mecca KC Mo.and, the same distance down 70 east from a couple of heavy hitters in Stl.

Outstanding BBQ. I’ve eaten here twice. I placed an order for carry out once and dined in once. The restaurant has a carry out operation, dine-in and a drive-through service, which I think is overwhelming for the staff to manage. Each time I’ve visited, the restaurant seems chaotic but the food has been delivered super hot and seriously so DELICIOUS. It’s some of the best BBQ i’ve had in my life and I’ve sampled my fair share over the years. Things that could be improved are: 1) The sauce should be included for carry out orders because it costs extra for carry-out orders but is on the table when you dine-in, which is frustrating 2) when you dine-in, the sound of the chip drill is annoying 3) it’s pricey but the food is so good that it’s honestly worth itThe things I really like about Lutz’s are: 1) Excellent food. Cuts of meat are tender and perfectly seasoned/cooked. It’s done right and the product shows it (I’ve sampled the brisket, pulled pork and pulled chicken) It’s miles ahead of Bandanas in that respect 2) excellent options but the menu is pretty extensive and can be tricky to navigate 3) The sauces (spicy, sweet and mustard) are perfection 4) I could eat a shameful amount of the mac and cheese. It’s the bomb.com 5) no specific waiter/waitress so tip is optional, which is just fine with me. 6) neat fan in the buildingOverall, Lutz’s is a relatively new place so I’m hoping they’ll develop a rhythm eventually and work out the kinks. The food thus far has been outstanding so they have certainly earned my business in that respect. I used to think Shotgun Pete’s was the best BBQ in Columbia but I’ve changed my tune since sampling Lutz’s 🙂
