The best day to visit Moe’s is on Mondays, when they have their 5$ bowl or burrito+ chips +salsa offer on. This is not to say that the place is substandard and should be paid a visit only because of the cheap price, but I do have my personal bias against Moe’s. I don’t like the rice base that they make, as compared to other Mexican food outlets, and that makes it not worthwhile to visit during the rest of the week. I like the ground beef that they serve though, but would be happier if they introduce the cilantro rice in addition to the spicy and mildly spicy ones available.
Only on a Monday. Pros: fresh food, excellent ingredients, salsa bar, cool new Coke machine with a million possibilities, $5.00 for a burrito, chips, salsa, and drink on Monday.Cons: Parking isn’t easily found or free, line moves slowly, constantly running out of ingredients, many hidden charges not advertised on the menu, normal menu prices are high.Mondays aside, when I can buy a burrito, drink, and salsa for $6.00 after tax and parking, Chipotle has little to worry about. Moe’s does well in that it has a wider variety of ingredients and options than Chipotle including cilantro, jalapenos both diced and fresh, and ground beef to name a few. My father refuses to return because on more than one occasion we have had to wait for more meat to be cooked, guacamole to made, soda to be replaced, or the salsa bar was simply destroyed and empty save for what you could scrape off of the counter. This is truly an establishment for the students who have grown accustomed to the state of being over crowded that comes along with attending the University. This restaurant has 2 fatal flaws. It is woefully, understaffed to accommodate the influx of hungry college students, and it is the only one in Columbia making it inconvenient for anyone other than students to have quick and easy access to.
