Good Soup. Pickleman’s is a local institution having begun some years ago in downtown Columbia. This is not a place that you can walk to unless you live across the street. The one here on Old 63 is all by its lonesome. Well, there is a Mexican restaurant next door but nothing else. A lot of nice tables lined up in a row. This Pickleman’s seems to be run by college-aged guys and seem to be doing a good job. It’s clean and efficient. They have a Coke mixology dispenser in the corner and the do a lot of sandwich deliveries as well as take out orders.Although I have not had a sandwich here, they come highly recommended. I was a little under-the-weather and a bowl of soup sounded just right. I had a large bowl of their baja chicken soup. It was delicious and spicy indeed. The large is about two cups, the small I would imagine to be about half that. One of the negatives about the process is that even though I was eating at their establishment, my soup was given to me in a plastic to-go bowl with a cover. It was filled to capacity and I had a problem taking off the top. Soup then began spurting out from under the lid and I ended up getting soup all over a shirt sleeve. I guess everything is disposable here, but I would have appreciated the option of going lidless. I was not a fan of the roll that came with the soup, but it was better than nothing. It was dry, tasteless and basically forgettable.Pickleman’s is expanding. Now they have 15 franchises. I would hope to have them come down to North Texas at some point. Until then, the closest one to me is in Norman, Oklahoma, if I want to try some other things on their menu.
Never having been here before, my family thought the food was good. We had a variety of sandwiches- chicken asiago, chipotle chicken, and pizza guy and a cup of broccoli cheese soup. No one complained. Pickleman’s is a great place for some good subs.
