Very friendly and clean place excellent food service!! The food come out so fast. My family loves the Rio grande tacos ( street tacos) the are the best we eat ones a week also we love the drink specials every day !! We do recommend this place two thumbs up !! No doubt
I finally found a good Mexican restaurant in COMO! Ate there last night, and was blown away. Great prices, perfectly sized portions, and tasty margaritas. Service was prompt, and courteous. Hard to find, but worth looking for.
Bad Waiter !!. Former user of Rio Grande. About 2 years ago I was a weekly customer. Ordered 3 enchaladas with ground beef and received cheese and chicken instead of what I ordered. Waiter took my plate and I waited 1/2 hour and he never returned except with the bill, so I took his $5 tip and paid for it. My wife and I Have never returned.
Decent. You get quite a few of these Mexican American restaurants in Columbia and I’ve eaten at a few of them. Rio Grande does have some of the best food, but the wait staff does leave a little to be desired.
Former regulars. My husband and I made a habit of visiting Rio Grande once each week until about 9 months ago. A few of the waitstaff recognized us as regulars. One in particular was always very friendly and seemed happy to see us. He no longer works there. We noticed that when this server left the service went completely downhill. The next time we visited the restaurant, we were told that all the cooks had quit that day. It was a terrible night in terms of service. On some weeknights when the restaurant is not particularly busy, we have waited as long as 15 or 20 minutes for a server to take a drink order. We have waited as long as 45 minutes to an hour for our food. Other nights, the food comes out so fast that you have to wonder whether it was pre-made and microwaved. I can’t remember the last time a server at Rio Grande offered me a beverage refill. I have gotten up from the table to get my own box. We usually have to ask for the check so we can pay and leave. We have observed several occasions when servers seem to be busy watching soccer or other sports on TV. We also have observed that there either are not enough servers or that the servers are assigned all over the restaurant so they have a more difficult time attending to each table. We returned to Rio Grande for the first time in months recently and observed that the same service problems still exist. It is the closest Mexican restaurant to our home, but it is much lower on our list of restaurants we choose to visit. We drive to the north side of town or the far south side to patronize other restaurants that have superior service and food.
Mostly good. The highs: – Chips and salsa were very good! The salsa was very smooth, just-right spicy, and surprisingly garlicy. – Food came out fast. Like almost fast-food fast. – Restaurant environment was fairly pleasant. Everything was clean, and this place felt more open and bright than most Mexican places. – Food was pretty good. Not exceptional, but very good. The lows:- Waiter was very uninterested and inattentive. Drink refill only happened once despite the need for more.- My wife’s enchilada sauce had a strong cinnamon (?) flavor that was good at first, but grew tiring quickly.Bottom line: A decent Americanized Mexican option. I haven’t been to any other Mexican places of this sort in CoMo, so I can’t say how it ranks against the others in town. But out of my dining experiences at such places, I’d say it’s par for the course.
Best Mexican in Columbia. Love the Rio Grande. Very reasonably priced portions, fast and friendly service. Try the carne asada burrito…steak is cooked perfectly. Seafood is good too. And try the guacamole salad as a side…the lettuce it is served on is never waterlogged (a problem I’ve found at many other places), and appears to be fresh-cut. Their white nacho cheese queso sauce is very nice too (sweeter than cheddar, etc.) They also have BIG margaritas and a nice selection of beers if you’re not driving! Would highly recommend!
