Good but pretty overrated. I think everyone expects this to be the best pizza place but I disagree. You have to try it to say that you did it, but certainly not the best in Columbia.
If you want a singular pizza experience with fun and flavorful toppings I guess this is the only place to do so in Columbia. They have an amazing crust recipe that sets it apart. Along with great veggie options. The full bar at all locations totes helps for all of the college traffic that gums up the system.
It’s fun and the people are nice. Plus best I can tell if you say you do not like it someone comes and takes away your citizenship.
Shakes has gone way down hill. 30 years ago Shakespeare’s Pizza was something special. They had a large variety of high quality toppings and the crust had bubbles in it. Bubbles! It was as if the dough had a chance to rise a bit before going in the oven. For the last 10 years or so, the crusts have been flat, dense and flavorless. I hate to disrespect my old favorite, but there is no such thing as good pizza with bad crust.Shakespeare’s on a nice sourdough with a light open crumb would be special again. Uprise Bakery is down the street from you guys. Go ask them how to make dough instead of concrete.
