Worth it…for special occasions. Good food, but a bit pricy. I really love the Balsamic Chili Calamari. The patio on a nice spring or fall day can’t be beat though.
Nice Enough. Solid food, generally, though the price point is a bit high.Brunch is probably the best, though sometimes getting a table can be a pain. Service is varied (college town epidemic), with the good usually outweighing the bad. Owned by the same people as Addison’s. Much like there, it’s a decent place, worth a shot.
Nice atmosphere, good prices and generous size on wine by the glass. Exciting menu and prices didn’t seem too high….. until we tasted our meals. Surprisingly bland and mediocre. Service was good.
My wife and I were visiting Columbia and tried Sophia’s after reading the reviews and getting recommendations around town. The decor and atmosphere were great. The service was fine. The food was disappointing. We had the Calamari appetizer. It wasn’t terrible, but was really heavy and greasy. My mouth felt like I had just taken a spoonful of old oil. My wife had a vegetable plate which was tasty, although very small for the price. I had the dinner special which was a great sounding pasta dish with andouille sausage and asiago sauce. It was not good, it tasted pre-fab and the sausage might have been andouille flavored but definitely not the real thing. We spent about $45 on food and $20 on drinks, the wine was fine. Perhaps we were there on an off night but next time we are in Columbia we will try somewhere else.
An enjoyable meal. While nothing groundbreaking, my wife and I enjoyed our Valentine’s day dinner here.Good stuff: The menu has some creative and very tasty items. I had the ginger apple gruyere pizza, and my wife had the Pasta Buonasera. Although neither looked particularly special, both were really good. Also, the environment is pleasant: slightly upscale, but still casual, accented with warm colors.Bad stuff: Service was okay. Our waitress, while sufficiently attentive, seemed like she wanted to be somewhere else. Although the food was good overall, I have a few complaints. Both my taste buds and eyes could swear my pizza’s crust was pre-made (either frozen or a mix). For such an avant garde item, this is unacceptable. As mentioned above, the kitchen could use some help with its food presentation. Both of our dishes look like something from Olive Garden.Bottom line: Sophia’s has some issues, but the overall package is good. If you’re looking for tasty, relatively innovative, quasi-italian food, you’ll really like this place!
Sophia’s a Star!. Dined at Sophia’s last nite and it was great all around! We started with the Shrimp and Brie Toasts which was a great blend of flavors. I had a Caesar salad which had the perfect dressing for my taste. My wife was not feeling like a main meal so she ordered the Hummus plate and a Sophia Salad…the salad was excellent and the ginger-balsamic dressing was super. She said the hummus was sort of bland and I agreed. I had the Apple Wood Patchwork Chop and it was perfect…flavor was spectacular! We shared a Brownie Bread Pudding but couldn’t finish…very decadent dessert and yummy! Lyndsay, our server, was very attentive and friendly! We were not rushed but I would have liked a bit more time between courses. Sophia’s rates at least 3 stars and will get a return visit from us.
The goat cheese & pine nut pasta impressed the foodie from Portland. Staff friendly and attentive.
