Sahara restaurant. The best gyro salad i ever tasted.
Stingy Business; Lazy Staff. We used to enjoy Sahara’s when they first opened and would eat there weekly. We have noticed over this year they have gotten considerably worse.Price: They have usually been stingy with the pita. Two pieces when we have ordered a combo vegetarian plate and a separate baba ganoush and will charge when you ask for more and then forget to give you the extra pieces. They have cut back on portions. You can no longer get certain things with your meal as sides like you used to. In addition, prices have gone up but quality hasn’t.Service: As mentioned before, they forget items usually (not exaggerating) about 75% of the time. The last time we did carry out, they dumped all of our combo into a gooey glob of a mess in the takeout box and didn’t seem to really care when I called to complain. They have also forgotten to include any pita at all on several occasions. The only time that they did act concerned was when the owner was there and started screaming at the staff about it and gave me one free pita bread for having to come back. Food Quality: Last few times it has been overcooked. They have cut back on the meat and have filled most of the sandwiches with stale lettuce and tomatoes (produce is nowhere near as fresh).I have noticed there is rarely anyone in there anymore. I’m not even for sure if they care anymore. I will not be going back. There are way too many other great places with similar food to waste my money here.
Definitely not the best in K.C.. This is basically fast food-style Mediterranean. You order at the counter and get your order delivered to your table soon after. I got the hummus plate. The hummus had a bit too much lemon juice for my taste, and the pita wasn’t very good. This certainly beats McDonalds or something like that, but it’s definitely not the best Mediterranean in K.C.
Great food, great service. This place is the best middle eastern food in KC.
Great, affordable mediteranean food!. Sahara is absolutely delicious and it’s hard to go wrong on their menu. For anyone not used to mid-easter or greek fare the gyro is the way to go! Don’t be afraid to try new things because it’s all delicious! This place is truly a gem!
Overall it’s a mixed bag. It all depends on what you order. Falafel and all of the kebob items have been good. The hummus tastes like it came out of a Sysco can. The gyro meat appears to have arrived frozen on the same truck as the hummus and appeared to have been tossed on a grill to heat it up. Grilled chicken sandwich and salads were good. Not great – not terrible – just so-so.
So-So. I have been here several times. The first time (last winter), it was great. The last three times the food has been so-so and nothing special. In fact, the food isn’t even hot in temp., it is almost cold. I don’t like eating cold food unless it is meant to be cold. I don’t think I will go out of my way to return. Too bad, because I love this type of cuisine.
