More of a bar than a restaurant but the food was actually pretty solid. I had a burger and waffle fries and it was well prepared and quite good. Service was spotty. Had lots of cute waitresses all dressed for the ballgames but service itself was fairly slow and seemed to take longer than it should have. Had to flag down a waitress that wasn’t ours to get silverware. Drinks were slow. Like I said, more of a bar than a restaurant in my opinion and the food was good. I’d go back. Just know what you are getting.
Poor Service and Lower Level Smell. Considering that I live near this restaurant, I occasionally go from time to time. Each time the food is good, but the servers are never good and act like your bothering them from their tv time when you ask for anything. The lower level always has a weird smell that is really off-putting. The only way I eat/drink at this place anymore is at the upstairs bar and you get much better service.
Just had my first and LAST experience at Tomfooleries Kansas City. As soon as my fiance and I walked in we were bombarded with a band playing so loud that you could not hear the person talking at full volume next to you. We made our way to the outside patio to escape the noise but soon found out there was no escape. Over served drunk patrons would file out every few moments to stand a foot and a half from our table to shout about their politically incorrect opinions on society. The waitress was obviously uninterested in us as customers because we were there to eat and not drink. It took 15 minutes just to get my soda because the waitress was too busy talking with her friends to walk three feet and set my now watered down, warm, and flat drink in front of me. but oh no she forgot the menus. Ten minutes later we finally got those. I still at this moment don’t know what she brought me as my food but I can tell you this… it was not what I’d ordered. I wanted to tell the waitress that there had been some sort of mistake but of course she had disappeared immediately to talk with her friends. Not wanting to take another 45 minutes to correct this problem I decide to just try what she brought me. It was some monstrous burger that fell apart on the first bite heaping into a soggy pile. At this point i just wanted to leave 🙁 The next time I caught sight of the waitress I asked for the check. She looked down at the plate of in uneaten food, then to the face of a dissatisfied customer and said….sure. Really that’s her response. Not was there something wrong? Or maybe wow you weren’t that hungry were ya. No she just was happy that we were leaving and she could get back to her friends. So if you’re looking for a loud, uncomfortable restaurant, with horrible service, and food that you may or may not have ordered…..Then you should go to Tomfooleries on the Country Club Plaza because that’s exactly what you will get!
The food was great. But the service was horrible. We had a reservation at 6:30 for 17 on a sat. This was 2 weeks ago. We didn’t wait long to be shown our table for 8. Oops we made reservations for 17. One table is brought and chairs, a 4 topper for 9 people. What? We have to point out we still can’t all sit. Our waiter has to go find a table and we were on our own to find chairs. Waiter brought waters to our party of17, 2 at a time. I observed 1 bartender watching TV the other staring at no one. No one was sitting at the bar. As well as 3 wait staff standing at the bar chatting and watching our waiter bust butt. Yea he should have got a tray. I’m sure that is was they were talking about because they weren’t waiting for drinks or waiting on tables. There were only 3 other tables at 7. Food did come out right and was good. But I’m very disappointed at the apathy of the wait staff and the absence of a manager. Not sure ill go back.
Brunchtime. I took my family to Tomfooleries for a mother’s day brunch, and despite the crowded atmosphere and long wait time, it was worth it. The wait time to get a table for 9 was about an hour and a half, so make your reservation early or get there early for holidays like this. They did crowd the tables a little bit and we definitely could have used one additional table, but we survived. Our server did a great job regardless. The brunch bar had an outstanding selection. Make sure you take two plates at a time. They have your typical breakfast foods as well as lunch/dinner-type foods (pasta, pizza, ribs, prime rib, etc). I was really surprised at all they had. They even had eggs benedict. Their bloody mary bar is good too, and they have non-alcoholic options if desired. I would consider going there again to order off their menu. It’s probably one of the more family-oriented restaurants in the Plaza area. Kids under 6 eat from the brunch bar free with the purchase of an adult brunch bar.
The fried pickles are a must have. The peanut butter fried chicken is AMAZING! The restaurant is kinda loud and frequently the service is uneven. There could be a better selection of beer. Despite te issues with service, I would recommend Tomfooleries!
Sunday Bloody Mary Brunch. What more can I say…heaps of fun!
