Delicious, novel, reasonably priced and well located. I’ve eaten dinner there twice now in a month, on uncrowded Tuesdays when the prices were very reasonable. Had the pulled turkey, excellent shrimp in a fruity hot sauce, and gourmet tacos made with lamb, carnitas, and beef brisket. Churros for dessert were merely OK but came with plenty of chocolate dipping sauce. The food went way beyond the usual Mexican restaurant fare in flavor complexity. There is a good selection of local craft beers on tap. Comparable restaurants are the Maya Cafe in Maplewood and Mission Taco Joint in the Delmar Loop, but Lucha is next to Jazz at the Bistro, across the street from the Fox Theater, and less than a block from Sheldon Auditorium, so it was the perfect pre-show dinner spot. It replaced a pizza place and adds nicely to the other eateries around Grand Center. I’ll be going back for sure to try the rest of the menu.

Almost a good choice….. My mom is a season ticket holder at the Fox, so on show nights, we will try different places in the area to make a fun night out. When we showed up at Lucha, the restaurant had maybe 5 other guests in it – and we were there by 6pm. We were almost LATE to an 8pm show!!! Our server was HORRIBLE! We got our appetizer at the same time as our meals and my mom’s dish was BARELY even still warm. I had ordered a Negro Modelo – which in any other restaurant or bar I have been to – comes with a lime. I asked my server for a lime, but he never brought one and told me to use the ones that came with my dinner. Number 1 – not right! BAD service. Number 2 – the limes were not ripe and could barely be squeezed for any juices! SERIOUSLY?!?!The only positive to our experience was their guacamole. I thought is was incredibly delicious and would be the only reason I would go back. I applaud them for having some tasty and different food, but you HAVE to get your service down if you are going to survive in that space.26 Mar, 2015HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!. 3 of us tried this spot last night before seeing a show at the Fox. We went early but were almost late to the show because our server was AWFULI asked for a lime that he never brought, our appetizer came out with our meal and the food was barely warm. Then our server disappeared! We had to ask 3 times for our check and it was clear that he wasn’t up to par for that job.The ONLY saving graces for this experience were the guacamole and their house salad.Otherwise, unless they improve service – this place won’t last long either.
