Amazing filet mignon!. This place was awesome! Even better than I expected! We ordered the Wagyu burger with a side a sweet potato fries and the the filet mignon with a side of asparagus and brussel sprouts. The burger was decently seasoned and had perfect melted cheese on top. The onion jam on top provided the perfect sweet to the burger’s salt. The sweet potato fries are skinny fries and are the prettiest, brightest shade of orange I’ve ever seen! They had a nice texture and good seasoning. Now, the filet mignon was incredible! It had one of the most amazing textures I’ve ever experienced in a steak. It also had a very strong pepper flavor that was perfect! The asparagus great and the brussel sprouts with pancetta were everything I want out of life! I will definitely visit this place again!
The hostess Caren seemed like she was on another planet when we walked in. Over priced mediocre food.. Plenty of other places in STL to go for those prices
J Gilbert’s Restaurant. My wife and I have always enjoyed the food, the ambience, and the service at J Gilbert’s. On our last visit, my wife’s birthday, the wait staff was extremely courteous and professional. We will certainly come back again.
The food was great but the crying children were not…. The appetizer of tuna tartare and smoked salmon was awesome. Very flavorful. We loved the scallops, filet mignon with crab cake. The side dishes of au gratin potatoes and lobster macaroni and cheese were also flavorful and delicious. The dessert of creme brulee was sizable and delicious. The food was delicious. What we didn’t enjoy was paying over $100 for a meal and having a table with three crying children during the entire visit. I do understand people want to eat as a family but if the kids are screaming, can we please all have some common courtesy and take the disruption outside? Please? Since when has America become so rude to not care about disrupting a meal at an expensive restaurant. I do not blame the restaurant management. I was expecting an intimate setting, not McDonalds playland. I’m sorry but when I’m paying well over $100 for two meals, I expect a different environment. For that reason I will not be back. I had no idea it is a family hangout.
Never on sat night. Our salad plates were boiling hot so eat fast service was a joke waiter forgot apps and never brought any bread to the table had to flag mgr
Everything was good. We had dinner here (birthday celebration for a friend). Hubby and I had the salmon, steak, mashed potatoes, asparagus, crab bisque, Crme Brle, cheesecake w/ strawberry sauce and white wine (red wine was served as well-not a fan of red wine). I am not sure of the prices as everyone’s dinner (about 24-26 ppl) was taken care of by the hostess of the celebration. We had a prefixed menu w/ 3 to 4 different items to choose from the starters to the desserts. Everything was delicious. The service was excellent. We all had a great time w/ no complaints or ppl sending back plates. Whew! 🙂
The service was excellent. We had the filet that was cooked to medium as ordered but it was not the melt in your mouth cut that we were hoping for. It was good but not over the top. Also had the scallops over lobster rissoto, Now that was full of flavor. The bisque and the oysters on the half shell were also very good. Dont let them seat you in the bar. Sit in the dining room for the full experience.
