Here for a pharma sponsored dinner. Annoyed by the slender water glasses that hold little water. Salad was nothing special, not attractive or crisp, with blah vinaigrette. Trout was tender and not overcooked, lightly breaded. Potatoes and steamed spinach it was served with unremarkable. Dessert strudel was shredded apples raisins nuts in a phyllo crust, large filling of the apple mixture–think 1.5 large apples per serving. It was pleasantly under sweetened but oddly under spiced. Do Germans actually eat such under-seasoned food? Lovely modern decor.

So I recently ate at Affare. After reading some of the reviews, I walked in second guessing my decision. Then… I ordered. The staff were friendly, professional, and knowledgeable of the items on the menu. We ordered the sea appetizer (we ordered an appetizer after reading the views regarding portion sizes.) Very good. The octopus bacon was excellent. I had the halibut steak on risotto. It was delicious. It was packed with flavor. I am now pleasantly stuffed, but not bulging. The portion and prices are comparable to many of the restaurants that would be in their classification. An establishment I will absolutely return to.
Foie Gras on Kaiserschmarrn. Fluffy pancake, caramelized with apples, raisins, onions and grand marnier, then topped with huge pieces of seared foie gras.06 Nov, 2014Leipziger Allerlei. Perfectly cooded root veggies with a light cream sauce, crawfish tails and a pretzel dumpling.
Great food. Affare had a nice atmosphere and great food. The service was wonderful as well. I would eat there again.
Heads up, Not Fast Food. This is in reply to those that have placed negative reviews due to the pace of the restaurant. First of all, if you want fast food, go to McDonalds, this is not your place. Same if you want your meal Super-Sized. You’ll find that if you pace yourself between bites, you will feel full in spite of the portions, which are perfectly sized for the courses. This is one of the finest restaurants in KC at the moment. The food is outstanding by all accounts. It is also authentic and varied enough to please everyone. I have very picky eaters in my group and they cannot get enough of this place. But I won’t say more about the food because many folks here have already found it to be incredibly delicious. This is about the service. The pace is European all the way. the concept of mad dash, fast dining is an American culture that is still joked about in Europe. Isn’t it nice to not feel rushed at a restaurant just so they could seat more people? It is a leisurely paced food experience. And if you go for dinner, use their sommelier, Katrin for wine recommendations, it will double the wonderful experience. we went there for a 4 course dinner a few times and we sat there for hours. Enjoyed a wonderful espresso at the end served European style, I will sum it up, if you are in a hurry, do not come here. Affare won’t rush to get you out the door like some places do to keep filling their tables.
Started out perfect and carried through the evening. We were seated at a lovely table, our server was wonderful and the meals interesting and prepared with attention to detail.
