After living in KCMO for over ten years, I finally got around to eating at City Diner. The place isn’t much to look at, which is part of its appeal. Our waitress was fast and friendly. She greeted us shortly after sitting down and brought coffee. We both had eggs over easy, hash browns, and bacon, glorious, thick-sliced bacon. Did I mention bacon? The meal was solid. The only thing I’d fault City Diner on is the weak, bland coffee. Don’t let the lousy coffee stop you from eating here. The food and service more than compensate. We’ll be back.
This place is great. My children loved it. Beth and our other wonderful waitress were so kind and incredibly helpful with our large group (6 kids and 4 adults). Good food and they made us a chili omelet off the menu.
I was in KC over the Valentine’s Day weekend and the wife and I always like to find those diamond in the rough little places to eat. For starters, I thought the food was pretty decent. What took me aback about this place was the customer service. A group of three young men came in and tried to sit at a round table that was toward the center of the restaurant, they were told by a waitress that it was ‘reserved for groups of five people or more’. I can understand that but there is a sign when you walk in the restaurant that states you can sit wherever you want to and the waitress didn’t show them to a table that accommodated them so they ended up sitting at a table for two. About ten minutes later, a group of three ladies walked in, this time each of them had a suitcase, I assume because there is a bus station nearby. The ladies tried to sit at the same table and once again they were told the same thing. This time, I asked to speak to the waitress and told her that I had witnessed both instances and told her that I didn’t think that was a good business practice. I explained that I understood the idea of wanting to accommodate larger groups but that they are potentially turning people away and the ladies she had just told that they couldn’t sit there had luggage with them. She told me that was the policy of the owner and that she couldn’t do anything about it. I told her, if we hadn’t ordered and ate our food already, we would have left. That was our first and last time eating there.
Its exactly what you expect it to be.. Its good diner food at a good price with nice staff.
Good, good, good! I have my grits with cheese, bacon & egg sandwhich, and a half order of hashbrowns. Good eat’n! Lol!
Love this place Italian sausage is great for breakfast. I always get the number 1 never had a complaint and the staff has always treated well. Probably the best diner in the City.
Glad we finally tried this place!. Ate here with my 3 boys on a Sunday morning this fall, and all of us loved it! My 9-year-old and I ordered the biscuits and gravy. Light and fluffy biscuits with plenty of gravy over the top – perfect! My 13-year-old ordered a breakfast burrito, and my 16-year-old ordered one 12-inch pancake. He wanted to start with two, but I talked him into making sure he could put away one of them first. I think he was glad he listened to me. Also, my coffee cup was never empty. Great service!!!We will definitely be back! Enormous portions, great value for the money! For the four of us, the bill was around $30 for food and drinks.
