Not worth the trip.. I’m a coffee snob that prefers your unique coffee houses over the big chains, and made a special trip to the City Market just for this place. The locals got a nice hello and were called by name as they entered the establishment , while new visitors were treated like non-welcomed tourists. As I waited by the barista for my two iced lattes that I ordered 20 minutes ago, I finally had to go back to the cashier and see what was taking so long. Somehow they misplaced my order, then I finally received one frozen latte that I did not order, and one iced latte where the bean tasted extra burnt with ash tray after taste. The rude service combined with a bad coffee bean made me wish I had gone through a Starbucks drive through where my $10 would have been better spent.
I love sweet things!. Not only is the staff friendly and knowledgeable, but the menu is great! I personally go by the Coffee House at least once a month and I almost always get a vegan breakfast burrito. They come with a sweet salsa that is heaven in a little cup. The brownies are amazing too–the icing is super sweet, though, so be warned. The coffee is pretty good too, though I will admit that I usually get an Italian soda in lieu of coffee. When I do get java, however, it’s always piping hot and full of precious caffeine! The owner is vegan, too, so there are always a lot of options for add-ins. I really recommend visiting the Coffee House for an early pick-me-up or an afternoon treat. Don’t forget the brownie!
I really want to love this place because the staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is great but their coffee and tea are pretty terrible. However their vegan burritos are AWESOME so I go back for those!
I come to City Market Coffee House once a week on my way to work and as a veteran of coffee houses, I can honestly say I’m impressed.I rarely go for a latte, partially because I enjoy a strong cup of regular coffee in the mornings and partly because there’s so many flavors to try! So far, I have yet to find a brew that I did not enjoy. The location couldn’t be better. There’s something uniquely urban about enjoying an awesome cup of coffee in the early morning and watching the produce market stocking their outside bins. The decor has an almost steampunk flair with a dash of grunge (90s style music, not filth) thrown in. The clientelle is eclectic, which allows for fascinating conversations on many topics with many perspectives. The manager, Nikole, knows her beans. She’s also friendly and attentive.I suggest you stop in and try one of their awesome breakfast burritos or crossants.
Not An Overstatement. This is the best latte you can get in KC, period! Sadly, there are not a lot of cafes out there that know how to properly texture milk or what the right amount of flavoring is best, but here, there are no risks, only rewards. This is my cafe of choice.
